Wikipedia users may want to add more clarifying keywords when searching about the UK's government crisis in 2022.

Wikipedia editors have recently added a new landing page that asks users to be more specific when searching about the 2022 UK government crisis in light of now-former UK prime Minister Luz Truss' resignation, per Gizmodo.

You may remember that Boris Johnson, Truss' predecessor as UK Prime Minister, had resigned earlier in 2022 due to a separate government crisis.

Wikipedia 2022 UK Government Crises Search Confusion Details

Wikipedia users will find a new landing page when searching about the government crises the UK government faced during 2022. This landing page contains a list of articles related to the title "2022 United Kingdom government crisis" or search terms connected to it.

As of the writing of this article, the page contains two links for the two separate crises the UK government underwent. The first is the crisis caused by a series of events that led to Johnson's resignation, while the other covers the Sept. 2022 mini-budget conflict that caused Truss to resign as prime minister after six weeks in office, per NBC News.

The creation of the landing page was caused by Wikipedia editors' confusion on which political crisis was being written about, as the two happened in short succession of each other - Johnson's crisis took place in July while Truss' occurred in October.

To differentiate between the two crises, the July 2022 UK government crisis started when Johnson's character and integrity were put into question.

Johnson's character was scrutinized when he appointed Chris Pincher, who was the focus of a sexual assault complaint, per TIME. Meanwhile, his integrity was criticized when his staff violated social distancing rules by holding a series of parties during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic while most Britons stayed in their homes, per NPR.

These two events eventually made lawmakers, officials, aides, and members of his cabinet resign due to them believing that they could no longer serve under Johnson's leadership.

A YouGov poll found that 3 in 4 Britons said that Johnson was untrustworthy due to these key events, with 69% believing Johnson should resign.

Prime Minister Liz Truss as she delivers her resignation speech at Downing Street on October 20, 2022 in London, England. Truss served as the UK's Prime Minister for just 44 days.

As for the Oct. 2022 crisis, Johnson's successor, Truss, resigned from her post following a failed tax-cutting budget that was "disastrous" for the Pound Sterling, causing a revolt within her own Conservative Party, per CNBC.

A separate NBC News report mentioned that Truss proposed to remove the top tier of income tax as part of many economic reforms that caused the UK's currency to plunge to historic lows.

Although the pound's value increased as soon as the announcement was made, it eventually dove down after Truss defended the proposed tax cut and her economic agenda.

Many of Truss' colleagues in the Conservative party and in parliament were against the reforms, forcing her to abolish her plans.

This lack of support from her colleagues and in parliament ultimately led to Truss' resignation, as she felt she couldn't deliver the mandate on which she was elected by the Conservative Party.
