Amazon Adds Venmo As Payment Method in Time for the Holiday Season

Paying through Venmo is now allowed at Amazon.

The popular e-commerce platform has announced it had recently begun offering Venmo as its new payment method option for orders placed on its official website and mobile app, providing customers with another preferable payment method to use.

However, not everyone will be able to use Venmo to pay for their Amazon purchases just yet.

Amazon Venmo Payment Method Addition Details

Amazon stated that only a few select customers could use Venmo as a payment method on Oct. 26. It is possible that Amazon did so to get the feedback necessary to fix any bugs and glitches discovered and improve the feature before releasing it to the general public.

Fortunately, Amazon customers on its official website and mobile app are expected to not wait very long as paying through Venmo will become available to all by Black Friday, which is on Nov. 25.

Max Bardon, vice president of Amazon Worldwide Payments, said that Amazon wants to offer customers another payment method that is convenient, simple, and secure for the coming holiday season. He added that the company's goal in adding Venmo is "to meet the needs and preferences of every Amazon customer," which they are very excited to do when it comes to how and when they want to pay for their orders.

PayPal head of Consumer Doug Bland agrees with Bardon, saying that Venmo's addition to Amazon will continue its ongoing commitment to offer consumers "more ways to spend, send, receive, and manage their money with Venmo."

Amazon's Venmo page revealed that paying through Venmo does not involve any added fees or interest rates, meaning that customers will only need to pay for what they are buying and nothing more than that.

Using Venmo has some advantages other payment methods don't have.

The webpage said that Amazon customers who will use Venmo as their payment method could use their Venmo balance, linked bank accounts, or debit cards when paying for their purchases.

However, customers will need to have their Venmo account connected to Amazon before doing so.

How To Connect Your Venmo Account To Amazon

Customers who wish to use Venmo as their payment method are advised to add the digital wallet first to Amazon before paying for their purchase.

To do so, here are the steps you must follow, according to Paypal:

  1. During checkout, choose "Select Payment Method" and then "Add a Venmo account" to begin the connection process. Doing so will open the Venmo app automatically.
  2. Once the Venmo app is open, it will display a confirmation message that will ask you to allow Amazon to charge Venmo for future purchases. Confirming it will make an Amazon confirmation screen appear.
  3. On this Amazon confirmation screen, the option to set Venmo as the default payment method will be displayed for future purchases on the e-commerce platform. Customers can decide if they want to set Venmo as their default payment method or not for future purchases. At this point, Venmo is successfully connected to a customer's Amazon account.
