Amazon Drivers Call Out Company’s Advice on Dogs, Says It’s ‘Ill-Timed,’ ‘Tone-Deaf’

Amazon may have made an already bad and stressful situation worse than it should be.

The popular e-commerce platform had recently sent out a "Dog Awareness" message following the dog attack that took the life of one of its drivers while making their deliveries.

However, the company's message did not have the intended effect on its drivers, with some who received the advice being irked by it.

Amazon Dog Attack Advice Details And Reaction

Amazon mentioned in its advice to delivery drivers to check for the paw print icon in the "Delivery Notes" indicating that they should be aware of a dog at the stop they are going to, per a Vice report.

Additionally, drivers are also advised in the message to notify the customer to help them with their pet dog through "Driver Support" in the Delivery App or through other direct means.

This message follows the dog attack on one of Amazon's delivery drivers on Oct. 26, when Missouri sheriffs found a deceased delivery driver in a yard along with a German Shepherd and a Mastiff.

Official reports stated that the dog's owner was not present when the body, which had numerous bite marks from the dog's mauling, was found.

Unfortunately, officials are unable to confirm whether it was the dogs that killed the Amazon delivery guy or not.

However, the message simply alluded to pet dogs in a friendly manner. The company called them "four-legged customers" and "Fido" instead of addressing them as pet dogs directly.

The allusion to Amazon's advice irked some, if not all, the drivers that did receive it, saying it was downplaying the danger pet dogs present to delivery drivers.

Amazon's delivery drivers have a good reason to be angry. Many of them have reportedly gone to online forums with other drivers to discuss how to best protect themselves against dogs.

One of them even called for a "Nationwide No-Show" on Oct. 31 due to how Amazon responded to their fellow delivery driver's death.

Amazon has yet to clarify if its advice to its delivery drivers was sent in response to the attack or if it was drafted after it had occurred, per Engadget.

Amazon Delivery Autopsy Details

It can be expected that the delivery drivers' fervor for Amazon to properly address the situation will intensify soon. According to Fox 4's news report, investigators now say there is a possibility that the delivery drivers experienced a medical emergency before being mauled to death by the German Shepherd and Mastiff.

Deputies who were on the scene at the time shot and killed the dogs as they were being aggressive to them. The dogs' bodies have been sent for Necropsy testing. Meanwhile, authorities state that it could take between eight to 16 weeks before experts can give the delivery driver's official cause of death.

The deceased Amazon driver has yet to be identified as of press time.

Amazon told the media company that it is currently looking into the incident and will cooperate with law enforcement during its investigation.
