Tesla’s Cyberquad ATV for Kids Gets Recalled Over Safety Concerns; Customers Get Refund

Tesla's All-Terrian Vehicle (ATV) for kids is deemed unsafe to ride and use.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that the Tesla Cyberquad for kids is being recalled due to failing federal mandatory safety standard requirements.

Tesla first unveiled the Cyberquad ATV for kids in November 2019, per Inverse. The company released the kiddie ATC in December 2021 for $1,900.

Tesla Cyberquad Recall Details

The CPSC mentioned in its recall notice of the Cyberquad that it failed to comply with the federal mandatory safety standard requirements for a youth ATV, which includes mechanical suspension and maximum tire pressure.

The report cites a particular incident where a single-rider Cyberquad tipped over when driven by an eight-year-old child and a 36-year-old woman. Though the child is allegedly unharmed, as their injuries were not specified, the woman suffered a bruised left shoulder.

In addition to its failure to meet the required standards, the CPSC also faults Tesla for lacing a CPSC-approved ATV action plan required to manufacture, import, sell, or distribute ATVs.

A CPSC-approved ATV action plan consists of numerous safety requirements that would reduce crash and injury hazards that could prevent serious injury or death, such as rider training, age recommendations, and dissemination of safety information.

As a result of these failures, the CPSC recalled all of Tesla's 5,000 Cyberquads that have already been sold to be refunded. Customers that bought Tesla's kiddie ATV can get a refund once they remove the Cyberquad's motor controller and send it back to Radio Flyer through a prepaid envelope.

To assist customers with their refunds, Radio Flyer provided them with directions on how to locate, remove, and return it to the ATV on its recall website.

As of the writing of this article, Tesla is no longer selling its Cyberquads on its official website. Meanwhile, Radio Flyer, the company that imported the kiddie ATV from China, has also taken down its Cyberquad ATV store page, per Tech Crunch

The CPSC's recall notice stated that Tesla's Cyberquad was manufactured by the China-based company, Feishen Vehicle Industry Co LTD.

Tesla Cyberquad ATV Details

The Tesla Cyberquad is an ATV specifically made for kids eight and above. It was patterned on the Cyberquad ATV accessory vehicle to Tesla's Cyberpunk-inspired Cybertruck.

It is equipped with a 36V lithium-ion battery capable of moving 15 miles in-between charges, making it one of the first kiddie electric ATVs in history. It also comes with a 500W nominal motor, single mechanical disc brakes on a solid rear axle, and an adjustable suspension for its rear part.

There is no suspension at the front of the vehicle.

Its speed shows that the ATV is meant exclusively for kids, with the ATV having only a top speed of five to 10 mph depending on what the ATV's settings dictate.

Tesla first sold these ATVs in December 2021 for $1,900, and reviews for them were stellar. Electrek writer Micah Toll found the kiddie ATV fun to ride, even for an adult.
