Super Mario Bros. Movie Gets New Trailer, Shows Peach and Donkey Kong

Illumination just released a new trailer for its upcoming "Super Mario Bros. Movie," and it is a sight to behold.

The company recently revealed the official trailer of its much-awaited movie based on one of Nintendo's most popular franchises in video game history, the Super Mario franchise.

The movie also has a new release date that makes it possible to see the Mushroom Kingdom on the big screen earlier than previously thought.

'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' Official Trailer Details

Illumination's official trailer for "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" showcased a lot of fan service for Super Mario fans, along with callbacks to past and recent games in the franchise.

The trailer gives Super Mario fans and audiences alike their first look at Mario's brother, Luigi, Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, and the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom.

The trailer opens with Mario and Donkey Kong going up against each other in a coliseum full of monkeys, with Peach and Toad as an audience.

It then shows Bowser interrogating Luigi about his brother, saying that a certain human is interfering with his plan to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom.

The movie seems to be taking on a modern approach to Peach's character as she isn't being shown as the embodiment of the "damsel in distress" archetype as she is in the games.

She is instead portrayed as a proactive ruler in the protection of the Mushroom Kingdom, electing to lead her army of Toads into fights and joining Mario in his adventures.

The trailer also teases scenes wherein Mario has to go through platform segments featuring visuals similar to their classic 1980s look. Even the obstacles Mario faces on the platforming segments have their 1980s look.

The trailer then featured Mario's Tanooki suit from Super Mario Bros 3, per the Mario Wiki, and Peach using a fire flower to power up, per Polygon.

It also showed the infamous Rainbow Road in the Mario Kart games along with Mario and a crowd of characters racing on it.

Yes. Mario and the gang will be go-kart racing on the most difficult track due to its obstacles in the Mario Kart series, according to a separate Mario Wiki page.

Last but not least, the trailer finally reveals how Chris Pratt voiced Mario's iconic voice lines, such as "Let's a-go!" and "Wahoo!"

'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' Release Date

Illumination, through the trailer, revealed that "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" is scheduled to release on April 7, 2023, a date earlier than previously expected if past leaks are to be believed.

As previously mentioned, Chris Pratt voices Mario while Charlie Day of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" fame voices his brother, Luigi. Additionally, Anya Taylor-Joy, Seth Rogen, and Jack Black voice Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, and Bowser, respectively.

The movie is co-produced by Illuminations' founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Super Mario Bros creator Shigeru Miyamoto.
