Lensa AI: Are Those Amazing AI-Generated Selfies Bad for Real Artists?

The popularity of AI art has suddenly increased in the past few months, with applications like Lensa AI making it easily accessible to users from across the globe.

However, this upward momentum of AI-generated art is coming with a tinge of controversy as multiple artists have questioned its validity and ethicality from left and right.

The Rise Of AI-Generated Art Reignites A Wide Discussion Among Creatives

The possibilities of AI art seem to be endless, as AI art generators have been powerful tools in honing artists' creativity by exploring new ideas, visualizing complex ideations, and discovering new inspiration.

According to My Modern Met, AI-generating technology like Lensa can break down the mystified perception of people on art by democratizing its creative process for everyone.

If this is the case, then why is AI-generated art so controversial that it sparks a huge debate whenever it gets a little bit of the spotlight?

Many artists believe that the impact of such art is the disappearance and neglect of fine art, as AI generators make it extremely easy to produce art.

Additionally, they claim that AI art technologies make it easier to steal another artist's art style, which makes AI generators more than just creative tools but also collaborators and competitors.

LA Weekly writes that aside from this, the production of AI-generated art raises a few questions on originality, authorship, and intellectual property.

Despite this, some artists and art communities still believe that AI art makes it helpful for generating images that are difficult to find online.

"Open-source AI is a tremendous innovation, and we appreciate that there are open questions and differing legal opinions," says Stability.AI developer Tom Mason.

He adds that in the future, he hopes that the conflicting views of AI gets resolved and that different groups come to a consensus in finding the balance between innovating and helping the community of artists.

But Is AI Art's Rise A Bad Thing

According to Madhansart, contrary to what people might believe, AI art is actually not that bad at all as it allows the exploration of new ideas and techniques outside of traditional methods.

AI technologies also allow the exploration of many options and approaches to art that might be difficult or impossible with traditional methods.

Additionally, AI-generated art should not be looked at as a competition but as an addition to the already existing repertoire of art forms artists can dive into.

Aside from that, it allows much room for experimentation with composition and medium, AI technologies can be extremely time-saving.

Moreover, generating AI art helps artists overcome creativity blocks by providing constant streams of new ideas to jumpstart the creative process.

AI-generated art also reduces the amount of waste artists produce in making art through traditional methods, saving them money on art supplies in the process.

With this, it is still important to note that, like everything else, the rise of AI art can be a double-edged sword, which is why it should be treated with much caution and consciousness.
