Windows 11 Notepad Tabs Update Accidentally Leaked by Microsoft Staff

An employee from Microsoft accidentally tweeted an update with the Windows 11 Notepad. The post regarding the note-taking app says that it was getting a tabs feature, which has also been launched for File Explorer.

Notepad is Getting Tabs

The senior product manager at Microsoft tweeted a photo of the Notepad app with the update. Along with an announcement stating that it was coming to Windows 11. However, the tweet was deleted immediately, but only after people caught wind of it.

The screenshot evidently shows that the feature update was not ready to be announced. A label stated that it was confidential and that it shouldn't be discussed, and screenshots were not allowed.

As mentioned in The Verge, it might mean that the feature is still being tested internally at Microsoft and that it might not arrive yet soon. This new update will follow Microsoft's other update on Windows 11, which adds the same feature that allows users to open several tabs.

This helps users minimize the number of tabs open, which could eat up memory. It's also more efficient to shift from tab to tab. The update may be released around 2023 once it has been completed by Microsoft.

Other Features that Windows 11 Added

Tabs aren't new to Windows 11's features. The File Explorer tab was part of Windows 11 22H2 which was released in September. Users can also pin the important files on File Explorer's homepage through the Favorites section.

There's also the Suggested Actions feature, wherein the OS can anticipate your needs, according to PC Mag. That way, you can quickly prompt action without having to navigate through too many steps.

Reports say that users have been requesting this feature for years, and Windows is not only catching up. The feature is already available for other operating systems like macOS, wherein users can use Apple's macOS Finder to open tabs, which has been operational for almost a decade.

The feature allows Windows to detect phone numbers or dates and highlights them. The actions you can follow are making calls with Phone Link, opening Skype, scheduling an appointment, adding an event to your calendar, and more.

The Taskbar is no longer limited to icons that you can see on display. It now has an "overflow" menu in the form of three dots, like additional options on other apps. You can find icons within the three dots that aren't displayed on the Taskbar.

Furthermore, Windows 11 also updated the snipping tool, which allows users to not only capture the screen but record it as well. This eliminates the need for third-party apps used to record screen activities or gameplay.

All users have to do is open Snipping Tool and look for the record button near the capture button. There's also the option for highlighting the part of the screen that the users want to record. Once that's done, it can be previewed before sharing or saving.
