Epic Games Offers Death Stranding for Free for a Limited Time

Epic Games is getting into the holiday spirit as they give away a free game on their store yet again. This year, it's Death Stranding. Initially, they put the director's cut for free. However, they quickly changed it to the standard version.

Get It Before It's Gone

Among the games that Epic Games gave away for free this year are the classic Fallout games and Last Night Redux. The lucky ones may have caught the Death Stranding: Director's Cut on December 25, but no worries, Epic Games is still offering the standard version.

If you plan on getting the game for free, you may have to do so soon. It will only be free until December 27, and after that, it will go back to its original price of $40. If you're experiencing loading issues in the store, wait for a few moments and reload, as suggested by PC Gamer.

For those who already bought the standard edition on Steam, you can upgrade it to the director's cut with a discount. Steam is currently holding it at 40% off, so you'll be able to purchase it for only $6.

With the director's cut, you will have more graphic options like 4K resolution support. Product placements will also be removed, and there will be new combat abilities and equipment. There's an exclusive mission for the Ruined Factory too, according to Game Rant.

Why You Should Get the Game

Other than it being free to try out, it is claimed to be a "genre-defying" open-world action-adventure game. You'll get to see known actors like Mads Mikkelsen, Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, and Lindsay Wagner.

The premise is that in the future, a mysterious explosion prompts supernatural events wherein new and unknown creatures terrorize the land. Sam Porter Bridges, the protagonist, will have to survive in order to save humanity from going extinct.

It has a critics recommendation of 79%, a score of 83 on the top critic average, and a strong OpenCritic rating. Critics have called it a "true original" and it delivers a "fascinating world of supernatural sci-fi," according to the Epic Games Store.

Just make sure that you have the minimum specs required to play it on your PC, which is the following.

  • OS: Windows 10

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-3470 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200

  • GPU: GeForce GTX 1050 3 GB or AMD RadeonTM RX 560 4 GB

  • DirectX Version: Version 12

  • HDD: 80 GB
