CES 2023: ASUS Reveals Zenbook Pro 16X OLED, Zenbook 14X OLED, and More

Asus may have made its most ambitious and powerful Zenbook to date.

The Taiwan-based tech giant recently revealed the 2023 version of its Zenbook Pro 16X OLED and the Zenbook 14X OLED, its latest general-purpose laptops designed for general use, during CES 2023.

Asus has yet to disclose when the laptop will be available for purchase and how much its price tag will be. However, Tom's Guide mentioned it could be bought sometime in the second quarter of 2023.

Asus mentioned in its announcement that the 2023 Zenbook Pro 16X OLED is a laptop specifically made for creators who are always on-the-go thanks to it being smaller and faster than its predecessors.

With an advertisement like that, we have to talk about its size and weight first. The Zenbook Pro 16X OLED weighs only 2.4 kg (5.29 lbs), with its size being 13.98" long, 9.88" wide, and around 0.67" ~ 0.70" high.

The resulting product is a laptop light and small enough for users to be on-the-go with and not have to worry about being weighed down.

As for the laptop's hardware, it comes equipped with a 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13905H processor with Asus' Supernova system-on-module (SoM) design that reduced the laptop's motherboard core area by 38%, increasing the overall efficiency of its cooling system.

The reduction also allowed Asus to use the extra room for the GPU power components, allowing it to be equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPU. As a result, the laptop can provide a more stable and higher-quality GPU performance, which helps in reaching higher Thermal Design Power (TDP) values.

Speaking of TDP values, another marketing point for the 2023 Asus Zenbook Pro 16X OLED is its cooling system. It uses a liquid metal thermal compound that reduces the CPU temperature by up to 44.6 degrees Fahrenheit in high-performance mode, resulting in a total combined TDP of up to 155W.

As for the laptop's memory, it has a 32 GB LPDDR5X DRAM on board that can run at a frequency of 7500MHz and 1TB M.2 NVMeTM PCIe® 4.0 Performance SSD.

The laptop also has a 16-inch OLED HDR-capable display with a 16:10 ratio, 120Hz refresh rate, and 550 nits of brightness. Interestingly, it emits 50% less harmful blue light, lessening the chances of users getting eye strain from using it for long hours.

Finally, it has a Backlit Chiclet Keyboard Per-Key RGBW with N-key Rllover, a Precision and Support Touchpad, and an FHD camera with a privacy shutter.

Thanks to these specifications, the 2023 Zenbook Pro 16X OLED offers

a 20% boost in memory read/write performance, 1.7 times faster 3D rendering, and 2.4 times faster video editing compared to the laptop's predecessors with LPDDR5X memory at 6000 MHz.

As a result, not only is the laptop a jack-of-all-trades, but it can also rival Apple's 14-inch MacBook Pro, making it a great alternative, per Digital Trends.

Asus' fun during 2023 doesn't stop with the 2023 Zenbook Pro 16X OLED. It also announced its Zenbook 14X OLED laptop, designed more for general use than the previously discussed laptop.

However, much like the 2023 Zenbook Pro 16X OLED, it is portable, with the Zenbook 14X weighing less than the Zenbook Pro 16X. It also comes equipped with impressive hardware that is more or less equal to the latter laptop.

To be specific, the Zembook 14X OLED comes with the customer's choice of Intel Core processor from Core i5 to Core i9 if they so wish. It also comes with 35GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce RTXTM 3050 GPU, and a 14.5-inch display.

This display has a 16:10 ratio, 120HZ refresh rate, and a four-sided NanoEdge design with an 89% screen-to-body ratio. Interestingly, the customer gets to choose if the Zenbook 14X OLED will either have a touchscreen or not.

The 14.5-inch display of the Asus Zenbook 14X OLED can go all the way down if needed. It even has a pen for creators to use for their work or just to jot down notes.

There are only two differences between the two: their brightness and True Black certification. The touchscreen variant is 100 nits less bright than its non-touchscreen counterpart.

The same can be said with the two displays' True Black certification. The touchscreen variant is only certified at 500 while the non-touchscreen variant has 600.

This difference means that the non-touchscreen display variant will appear more vivid and life-like than its counterpart, though how much is still unclear until both are released.

This laptop is truly for general usage and multitasking due to these hardware specifications, but it can do some light creative work if needed.
