CES 2023: Google Unveils Latest Android Auto Interface, High Resolution Maps

Google is a huge company that has branched out to different aspects of tech, which is why it's harder to guess what they are coming up with next. At the CES 2023, the company showed off its new interface for Android Auto and Polestar 3 with higher-resolution maps.

Better Navigation for Streaming Music

The tech giant revealed that it is working with Spotify to make it easier for drivers to navigate through music ad podcasts. Google did it by integrating the Connect streaming tool with the car's Android user interface.

On the screen of the infotainment system of the vehicle, drivers can view and open the Spotify app on the left panel. By swiping from the right side, they can easily view a list of suggested playlists, according to Engadget.

Once the driver is over, users can effortlessly transfer music output depending on which devices are in proximity. A notification will appear that asks users if they prefer to continue streaming using other devices.

The Accessibility of Maps

Google already implemented improvements to the Android Auto interface's map, which was announced at the I/O 2022. They did not stop there, however since at the CES 2023, they also announced that the maps will now be shown in higher resolution.

The new features make for an easier cruise since they prioritize a better user interface. The maps are easier to access and the screen has a split-screen setup so drivers won't have to toggle from maps to other apps, as mentioned in Digital Trends.

The screen sizes are adjustable and the map is shown on the left side so it would be closer to the person handling the wheel. Speaking of convenient access, drivers can rely on Google Assistant for smart suggestions and on-screen shortcuts.

Google also removed the status bar and repositioned the indicator icons on the top left of the screen. The shortcut keys are located below the indicator icons. The left panel will also display alerts and notifications which can be swiped right until you reopen it.

Google's Digital Keys

Other than the improvements announced at CES 2023, Google has also revealed previously that users can now unlock and start their cars using their phones. Although, it can only be done with the Google Pixel 6 or later, and Samsung Galaxy S21 or later.

Users with vehicles and phones compatible with the feature can open the digital car key email from their car manufacturer. Then, they can tap Add to Android and pair the smartphone with their cars. After that, they can set up the digital key through the notifications.

Once it's been set up, users will need to sign in with their Google account, review the Terms of Service, and select Agree. The digital car key shortcut will appear on the home screen.

Options within the shortcut include unlocking, locking, and starting the car. By default, users won't need to unlock their phones to use the digital key. They can even use it even after the phone's battery has been drained
