T-Mobile has plans to acquire Mint Mobile, according to multiple reports. The second largest US mobile service provider is reportedly in talks with the budget wireless provider that is partly owned by actor Ryan Reynolds.
But according to Bloomberg, there is no final decision yet regarding the acquisition. For a long time, Mint Mobile has long been rumored to be up for sale.
T-Mobile is Considering an Acquisition of Mobile Mint
According to reports, Reynolds owned one-fourth of Mint Mobile. The company provides budget cell phone plans on the T-Mobile network starting at $15 per month.
The plan is designed by the company in such as way that people will not pay for more bandwidth than they need. Users can start with a three-month period plan and then make adjustments after that.
In recent years, Mint Mobile has made a name for itself through ads featuring Reynolds who's pitching the budget provider as a more affordable option as compared to larger telecom companies like AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.
T-Mobile didn't immediately respond to CNET's request for comment. Likewise, Mint Mobile refused to comment on the speculation of the acquisition.
Although Mint Mobile is packaged as a rival to larger wireless companies, the company doesn't run its own 4G LTE or 5G service.
The company is instead an MVNO that operates on T-Mobile's network. Since Mint Mobile is already using the T-Mobile network, it could make the transitions a bit easier for customers.
Mint Mobile is a division of Ultra Mobile. If the two companies will proceed with the acquisition, the brand of Mint Mobile could potentially be changed to Mint by T-Mobile.
That is if T-Mobile will follow its practice of renaming the companies that it acquires. For instance, one of its previously acquired companies was renamed 'Metro by T-Mobile'.
As of writing, there is no confirmation yet whether Ultra Mobile would also be sold alongside Mint Mobile or if T-Mobile was only acquiring the division company.

T-Mobile Further Expands its 5G Internet Services
In 2019, Reynolds became bought shares of Mint Mobile and became a part-owner of the company.
Since then, the actor has promoted the company in various television and social media advertisements. Because of this, the company was shown to his 21 million Twitter followers and 47 million Instagram followers.
T-Mobile expanded its 5G Home Internet services in November 2022, as per Tech Times. The service provider expands their broadband tier to 70 new cities. This solved the problem of millions of households who do not have access to broadband internet.
The 5G Home Internet service of T-Mobile costs $50 per month. Those users who are enrolled in the Magenta Max phone plan get $20 off for the broadband service every month. New customers are allowed to try this tier for free within 15 days.
It is not surprising that T-Mobile decided to venture into this move. Based on a study that the company released, Home Internet products have been making a huge impact on the market.
For this tier, the company was able to garner over two million customers, according to T-Mobile.
