Nintendo Switch Ranks As USA's Best-Selling Console For The Fifth Straight Year

As the Switch's sixth birthday approaches, it appears that Nintendo's treasured hybrid system has broken yet another record.

The NPD Group data indicates that in terms of units sold, the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling system in the US in December 2022.

Nintendo Switch Overtakes PlayStation 5

In terms of number of units sold, the PlayStation 5 came in second position, and the Xbox Series X|S took third, Nintendo Life notes.

PS5 reportedly made the most money last year in terms of sales, while the market as a whole is estimated to have crossed $56.6 billion but down by 5% from 2021.

According to market analyst Mat Piscatella, "factors influencing 2022 spending" included persistent supply restrictions, a sparse schedule of premium launches, and macroeconomic circumstances.

In terms of the top-grossing video games in the US in 2022 measured in dollar sales, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 came out on top, followed by Elden Ring and Madden NFL 2023.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which came in sixth, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which came in eighth, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which came in eleventh, are all in the top 10.

With major releases like Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, as well as some DLC for games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo was able to maintain sales last year.

In order to shift hardware, it also released OLED models inspired by games like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and the most recent Splatoon installment.

Nintendo Switch Is Also The Best-Selling Console Ever In France

Game Luster also discovered today that the Switch is now the best-selling home console in French history as a result of this success.

The Nintendo Switch has reportedly sold 7.09 million units in France, according to Philippe Lavoué, president of Nintendo France.

It now outperforms and outsells both the PS4 with 6 million units and Wii with 6.3 million units in terms of sales in the French tech market.

The leading console sold 987,000 units alone last year in 2022, accounting for half of all console sales in the nation that year.

It is also important to note that more than 50% of Switch owners in France had Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which sold 445,000 more copies at retail stores in France last year.

With a combined sales total of 701,000 copies in less than two months after release, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet set new records for the franchise as well.

In 2022, Pokémon Legends: Arceus outsold FIFA 23 to claim the title of France's best-selling individual game across all platforms.

That indicates that a record-breaking three Pokémon games were in the top 10 best-selling games in the nation for the whole year, Game Luster details.

As the highly anticipated release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in 2023 approaches, Nintendo has no intentions to slack down.

Additionally, a marketing cycle will soon start for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, according to President Lavoué.
