#EntertainmentTech Celebrate Kevin Costner's Birthday by Watching 5 of His Movies on Netflix

Kevin Costner is one of the actors who starred in some of the most critically-acclaimed films of the 80s and early 90s - a feat not so easily achieved in the business, per Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite this, he is known to have starred in some of the best movies in recent times, with some of them being featured in this listicle.

As such, to celebrate his 68th birthday (his birthdate is Jan. 18, 1955) here are some of his movies you can watch on Netflix.

Let Him Go

"Let Him Go" is a 2020 neo-Western film that puts Costner in the role of one of its protagonists, retired sheriff George Blackedge, per Rotten Tomatoes.

The film is based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Larry Watson, which follows the story of the Blackedge family following the death of their son. Due to certain circumstances, the husband and wife team set forth on a journey to find and rescue their grandson from the clutches of a dangerous family living off the grid in the Dakotas.

The movie received critical praise for its blend of adult drama and revenge thriller further enhanced by the movie's cast. It received an 84% fresh rating and a 76% audience score. Roger Egbert found it "a solid, grown-up drama we don't see very often anymore."

The Highwaymen

"The Highwaymen" is a crime thriller movie that has Costner play former Texas ranger Frank Hamer in his efforts to apprehend notorious outlaws Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, played by Emily Brobst and Edward Bossert, per Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie is based on the true events leading to the death of Bonnie Elizabeth Parker and Clyde Chestnut Barrow. For those unaware, Bonnie and Clyde were the American criminal couple who traveled the US with their gang to rob banks, small stores, and rural funeral homes during the Great Depression, per the FBI.

Unfortunately, critics found the movie middling, with it receiving a 6.9/10 rating from IMDb and a 58% rotten score from Rotten Tomatoes. However, it did garner a 73% audience score.

The movie was a hit to both critics and audiences, with it garnering an 82% fresh score and an 84% audience score from Rotten Tomatoes, while IMDb gave it 7.4/10.

Waterworld

"Waterworld" is a Kevin Costner movie that is not based on a true story for once. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie is set in a post-apocalyptic future where Earth's polar ice-caps have melted, submerging most of the planet's land in the process and forcing humanity to live in artificial islands known as "atolls."

The movie tells the story of Costner's character a mutated human known only by his title "The Mariner," as he searches for Dryland, which may be the last inhabitable land on Earth, with only two companions and a map to their destination tattooed on one of them.

Unfortunately, critics and audiences agree that the movie was a misfire, with it receiving a Rotten Tomatoes score of 45% rotten and a 43% audience score. IMDb found the movie as middling with only a 6.2/10 score.

The Untouchables

"The Untouchables" is a 1987 crime film based on the 1957 novel of the same name, per the AFI Catalog. The movie has Costner play the role of Elliot Ness, a Prohibition agent during the Roaring 20s who is trying to take down the infamous Al Capone, played by Rober De Niro. Ness is joined by Irish-American cop Jimmy Malone, one of the lawmen Ness recruited who won't be swayed by bribery or fear.

While the movie is based on a novel, the novel itself is loosely based on the real-life events that led to the apprehension of Al Capone.

Both critics and movie audiences liked the film, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a critics score of 82% fresh while audiences gave it an 89% score.

Meanwhile, IMDb gave the movie a 7.8/10 score based on 313, 241 user-generated reviews.
