Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Warzone 2.0 Season 2 Delayed — When’s the Release Date?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 players may be waiting for quite some time to play their second season.

Activision recently announced it is delaying the second season of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 to implement "several changes" to address players' concerns with both games before they release it.

Activision released Modern Warfare 2 on Oct. 28, 2022, to critical acclaim. However, its players have been complaining about the game's many bugs and issues.

COD: MW2, Warzone 2.0 Season 2 Delay Details

Activision mentioned in its tweet on Jan. 19 that it is moving the launch of the second season of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 from its original date of Feb. 1 to Feb 15. This delay is meant to give its studio teams the time needed to make "several changes" based on players' feedback.

According to Eurogamer, Modern Warfare 2 players have grown dissatisfied with the available content the game currently has when compared to Warzone 2.0, another COD game Activision released less than a month after Modern Warfare 2.

Additionally, players have also complained about the game's current state, with it hosting various bugs that can give players an unfair advantage against others in multiplayer matches.

You may remember the infamous "G Walk" and "Superman trick" that gave players super speed, allowing them to move faster than they were supposed to.

The game was also hit with server problems at launch, with players saying they couldn't log into the game, though this could be due to the game's popularity rather than a server problem caused by a DDOS attack.

While Activision is doing its part in fixing said issues, there are still some that remain, which may or may not be solved during the delay Activision gave.

However, there is a silver lining in Activision's announcement. The game developer also mentioned that Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0's second season includes all new content, along with the return of "resurgence," a new small map for Warzone 2.0,  and updates to the "Gulag" map, looting, and load-outs.

Meanwhile, Modern Warfare 2's second season comes with new multiplayer maps, modes, and weapons. Although Activision mentioned there are other additions to the game, it didn't disclose what they are.

Current State Of COD: Modern Warfare 2

Although there is no way to determine how many gamers are still playing Modern Warfare 2 on the PlayStation Network and Xbox's gaming platform, SteamDB's graphs showed that the game's concurrent players on Steam are steadily declining since its peak on Nov. 10, 2022.

Even the game's free weekend did nothing to attract new players to the game.

Interestingly, the game's concurrent players were already in decline when Activision released Warzone 2.0 on Nov. 16, 2022.

Regardless, of the game's decline, Modern Warfare 2 still has a healthy amount of players for it to remain relevant in the gaming community, with 86,282 players still playing it as of press time.
