Netflix’s 'Squid Game' Reality Show was Rigged, Contestants Say

The show "Squid Game" has seen massive success in popularity, so much so that it spawned its own reality show. Hundreds of contestants joined to play the famous elimination games as seen in the series. However, some contestants say that there have been displays of favoritism.

Contestants Say the Game is Rigged

The players who chose to remain anonymous said that some of the competitors have been receiving special treatment in the games. The favored players were TikTok and Instagram influencers and were already set to advance no matter what the outcome of the game is.

The favored players also had mics that were in working condition, while the eliminated contestants had dummy microphones around their necks, as mentioned in Gizmodo. One player said they were more like extras in a TV show than actual contestants.

Another claimed that the rules were not followed accordingly, and they were willing to bend them to contribute to a player's storyline. It even went as far as putting a player back into the game even though they have already been eliminated for the round.

As if the special treatment wasn't bad enough, some claimed to have been disqualified even if they have completed their objectives for a particular game. There were even signs that their fates were already decided even before starting the game.

Two contestants revealed that the show purchased round-trip flights from London for the filming, and coincidentally, the schedule for the return flight matches the day they were eliminated from the show, which can't possibly be determined before the game even started.

Another two claimed that even though some of the players moved during the "Red Light, Green Light" segment, they were not eliminated as they should. That was the cherry on top of the experience as they played the game in freezing cold conditions for nine hours.

Frozen in Place, Literally

The game was held in an airplane hangar in London, and it just so happens that the UK had a cold snap at the time, making the set unbearably cold for people who were not used to London's cold weather. Some people claimed they couldn't move their feet because of the cold.

The extreme temperature caused other players to need medical attention after the "Red Light, Green Light" game. While some only had mild ailments, one player injured their shoulder after running into a wall, according to Variety.

Some of the contestants would call for a medic, and everyone would stand for 30 minutes in between takes for it. A spokesperson from Netflix denied that there were serious injuries on set, and said that the participants were prepared for the cold temperatures.

They also said that they cared deeply about the health and safety of both the cast and the crew, and invested in appropriate safety procedures. However, these "safety procedures" clearly did not save the contestants from the alleged unfair outcomes of the games, taking away their chance to win the $4.56 million cash prize.
