7 Gadget Flops That Seemed Like It Would Succeed

Looking back in the last few years, we've seen a lot of gadgets that we can say we enjoyed while they lasted. Sometimes though, one of them pops into our head and we go "I forgot that even existed" because it just flopped big time. Let's take a trip down memory lane and list some of them down.

1. Google Glass

The device seemed like a step into the future at the time. Imagine, high-tech glasses that have access to maps, the Internet, and more. It even has a camera so you can record your perspective as you go through your life. Did you ever notice that it was just gone in a blip?

Other than it costing $1,500 each, the inventors and designers never really gave a purpose to the glasses, so the hype around the Google Glass did not matter. Without a clear purpose, why would people buy expensive eyewear?

2. The Amazon Fire Phone

If you haven't heard of the Amazon Fire Phone, we understand. It was released back in 2014 and it never really went anywhere. It seemed like a good idea at the time since they won't have trouble with branding because a lot of people already know about Amazon, right?

Well, that wasn't enough. The phone was said to have useless features, and it didn't have as much as apps compared to the two OS giants, Android and iOS, as mentioned by Make Use Of. Now, it's just a distant memory for some, and not even known to others.

3. Hoverboards

There was a time when hoverboards were all the rage and everyone wanted to get their hands on one. It burned brightly and quickly since no one is using it anymore, really. People quickly got bored of it since there was no actual purpose other than rolling around and trying not to fall head first when you lose balance.

4. Microsoft Band

Microsoft tried to enter the market of wearable hardware by creating the Microsoft Band, as suggested by The Verge. However, it was far from the smartwatches we have now. The band was more of a glorified fitness tracker that you can use to buy a drink at Starbucks. Eventually, they just shut it down and issued refunds to users.

5. PlayStation Vita

It was hard for a handheld console to not reach its mark, especially at the time when PS Vita came out. Portable consoles were a hit, and it still is now, but somehow the sales for PS Vita were just not as high as expected. It wasn't able to reach the success that the PlayStation Portable had.

6. BlackBerry

The brand was one of the most successful phone manufacturers back in the day. It was at the top of its game as it competed with Apple. But of course, Apple upped its game by adding new features, and BlackBerry just started collapsing in on itself by releasing failed products. The brand never managed to get back up after that.

7. Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Samsung's Note Series has seen success over the years, but the Note 7 went out with a bang, quite literally. It had good reviews in the beginning and it was faring well until one phone exploded, and a couple more after that.

There was even an instance where the phone caught fire in a plane, which led to the model being banned by the TSA. Samsung resolved the issue by recalling the phones and replacing them with a different model. They also sent out software that would render the Note 7 useless.
