Guillermo del Toro's 'Frankenstein' Remake For Netflix Reportedly Casts Big Names

Del Toro is scouting the actors for his upcoming project, a remake of the iconic horror film "Frankenstein."

He has attempted to produce "Frankenstein" and "Bride of Frankenstein" for years, but both projects were repeatedly postponed for various reasons.

The Details Are Not Final Yet

Del Toro will write and direct the Netflix original film with hopes to cast Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth, according to Game Spot.

He is still working on the script, and no actors have received formal offers, according to insiders close to the project.

So far, according to insiders, all three have met with him and have agreed to star, but Netflix has declined to comment.

Del Toro has been working on the "Frankenstein" project for some time and has always intended to make a movie based on the well-known Mary Shelley story.

At the time being, it is unknown if his adaptation would take place in the past or in the present, Deadline writes.

It is unclear who would play Dr. Frankenstein or his creation, but Goth is rumored to play the doctor's love interest.

After recently making a name for herself in the horror film industry, Goth is prepping for the third installment of her "Pearl" trilogy.

As per other rumored cast members, Isaac is still quite busy with his Emmy-nominated performance in HBO's "Scenes from a Marriage" and the Marvel limited series "Moon Knight."

Moreover, he was just chosen to play Kurt Vonnegut in the limited series "Helltown," according to Deadline.

Meanwhile, Garfield recently received Emmy and SAG nods for his performance in "Under the Banner of Heaven," and he will co-star in the StudioCanal film "We Live in Time" with Florence Pugh.

Del Toro's Attempt To Bring 'Frankenstein' To Life Has Began Way Back

According to a report by IGN, Del Toro first openly expressed his desire to adapt "Frankenstein" in 2008.

The famed writer-director's live-action movie is rumored to be "Frankenstein," but before that, he will co-write and direct a stop-motion version of Kazuo Ishiguro's fantasy story "The Buried Giant" for Netflix.

Del Toro previously admitted in 2019 that he was unsure whether the remake would ever happen, but said that he adored both films so much.

"I had an idea to do 'Frankenstein' and 'Bride of Frankenstein,' but I don't think it's going to happen...I really believe that the movies I do, most of the time, I do them because the premise is so absolutely bonkers," the writer-director says.

One of the most well-known films of all time and the source of the Monster's primary visuals is the Universal adaptation of "Frankenstein" from 1931, Game Spot notes.

Similar to Dracula, the Wolfman, the Bride, and the Monster of the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein became a popular culture icon.

Following the popularity of Francis Ford Coppola's 1994 "Dracula" adaptation, which starred Kenneth Branagh as Victor and Robert De Niro as the Monster, the film was remade.
