Tesla Rolls Out Full Self-Driving Beta V11 Update; Latest Version Combines FSD and Autopilot Features

Tesla drivers with access to the FSD beta program can expect big changes in the car's software features, as the automotive company has started rolling out the latest Full Self-Driving Beta v11 update. The highlight of the FSD Beta v11.3.2 is the merging of Tesla's FSD software and Autopilot system, along with additional neural networks.

Tesla's Full Self-Drving v11 Update Allows Car to Drive Itself to a Set Location

With the latest FSD Beta v11 update, Tesla vehicles can now use a single stack for both city driving and highway conditions, as v11.3.2 combines Tesla's Full Self-Driving software stack designed for city streets and roads with the Autolopilot system, which is intended for highway use.

With this update, the driver can set their destination in the navigation system, and the car will do all the manueverings required to drive itself to the specified destination. It should be noted that the latest update does not take away the driver's responsibility for their own safety.

The driver is still advised to remain vigilant and be ready to take over the vehicle if there is imminent danger. Hence, in spite of being called a "full self-driving" software stack, it is still considered as a Level 2 driver assistance system, according to Interesting Engineering. This means that the driver will still be liable once an accident transpires, and they cannot blame Tesla's FSD system for it.

Tesla FSD Beta v11.3.2 Boasts More Neural Networks For Advanced Self-Driving Capabilities

As Tesla aims to achieve a more efficient autonomy for its self-driving cars, improvements must be made in their neural networks. Thus, the latest Full Self-Driving Beta version focuses on the utilization of cameras and artificial intelligence for better mapping of the car's surroundings in real time.

As per The Driven, eight cameras gives a 360-degree view of the objects around the vehicle, while the car's AI is comprised of "massive datasets and brain-like neural net learning" that allow the accurate identification and mapping of objects such as street signs, instructions, pedestrians, and other vehicles on the road.

According to Tesla's full release notes on Beta v11.3.2, this version "allows for more complex agent interactions with less reliance on lanes" by improving the car's multi-camera capabilities. Furthermore, the latest update offers improved autopilot reaction time from red light and stop signs, as well as improved recall and precision in identifying objects by 15%. Beta v11.3.2 is also expected to limit the position error of different objects surrounding the car.

Tesla chief Elon Musk revealed this week that the company would begin the public rollout of Full Self-Driving software update, following the release of v11.3.1 for Tesla employees in December 2022. A few selected testers also received the latest FSD v11 update some weeks ago, which helped Tesla in idenfying and solving bugs and teething issues in the current software build before gearing up for a public release. In North America, around 400,000 Tesla owners have access to the FSD Beta version.
