Mint Mobile Data Increase Details

Mint mentioned in its announcement that it is increasing subscribers' data starting Apr. 14 without increasing its prices. According to the announcement that Jocalio founder and CEO Val Katayev retweeted, Mint is giving subscribers a minimal to a significant increase in their available data, depending on their plan.

The new amount will be as follows:

  • 5GB of high-speed 5G/4G LTE data for $15 per month (from 4GB)
  • 15GB of high-speed 5G/4G LTE data for $20 (from 10GB)
  • 20GB of high-speed 5G/4G LTE data for $25 per month (from 15GB)
  • 40GB of high-speed 5G/4G LTE data for $30 per month, plus 10GB of hotspot data (from 3GB of high-speed 5G/4G LTE data and 5GB of hotspot data)

CNET notes in its report that the new 40GB per month plan is Mint's "unlimited" plan; current subscribers of the previously mentioned plans will get the new higher data plans automatically after Apr. 14, when their monthly data refreshes. Additionally, the company said that subscribers to these plans aren't required to "enroll, register, or take action of any kind" to get the additional data.

The plan to increase customers' data holds true to Mint's promise of not changing its $15 per month pricing plan despite being acquired by T-Mobile in mid-March.

Mint Mobile's Acquisition By T-Mobile

You may remember that T-Mobile and Mint's parent company, Ka'ena Corporation, made a deal for the former company to acquire Mint's subsidiaries and brands for $1.35 billion. T-Mobile gave 39% of the payment as intended, while the remaining 61% was bought with stock.

T-Mobile will utilize its supplier relationships and distribution scale to help Mint Mobile grow, as well as offer prices that can compete with other brands. The telecommunication company claims that Mint has an "industry-leading digital D2C marketing expertise" that can be leveraged.

Additionally, T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert mentioned that he wants T-Mobile to "supercharge" Mint and Mint subsidiary Ultra Mobile into the future.

Mint, Ultra, and Plum CEO David Glickman expressed that the aforementioned brands thrived on the network provided by T-Mobile, adding that the agreement will take Mint's further and benefit more Americans by providing them with the 5G network.

Ryan Reynolds, a known actor who supports and promotes the brand, joked that he was glad that T-Mobile beat the last-minute bid of his mother, Tammy Reynolds, and that T-Mobile's network will provide a better strategic fit than his mom's mahjong skills.
