YouTube Music’s Library Tab Could Be Getting a Grid View Soon

YouTube Music could be easier to navigate soon.

The company behind the popular video-sharing platform is reportedly testing a grid view option to help YouTube Music users navigate the app more easily.

The company previously released a similar update for singles and albums from artists in January, though it only features two albums/songs per row, per XDA Developers.

YouTube Music Grid View Testing Details

A Reddit user recently posted on the r/YouTubeMusic subreddit revealed a screenshot of YouTube Music's Library tab featuring a toggle that lets the app's users toggle between its usual list view and a possible grid view.

Activating the toggle to use grid view changes the layout of how the items in YouTube Music's Library Tab appear - it now arranges all items in the Library tab in a grid that displays two items per row. It also displays the item's cover art while showing its name and other details underneath it, per 9to5Google

The grid option is presumably available for every view in the Library, although it is uncertain if it will be persistent like a mode or change back to list mode each time users navigate away from the Library tab.

It is uncertain how widespread the toggle feature and grid view already is, as it has only been a few hours since the Reddit user posted it on the r/YouTubeMusic subreddit. What is certain, however, is that YouTube is testing whether a view toggle that comes with a grid view is a popular option for people and if it eases navigation for its Library Tab.

Currently, the app displays items in its Library Tab through an alphabetically arranged list, which isn't the easiest to navigate when a user already went through hundreds or thousands of content. The addition of a grid view allows people to better appreciate an album's cover artwork without leaving any important details about it.

While YouTube Music could stand to add one more item to display per row, testing a grid view that shows just two items could be considered a start and something that visual browsers will prefer. It could even look "really nice" on tablets and even become as dense as YouTube Music's responsive grid.

YouTube Music Grid View For Singles And Albums

The potential addition of a grid view for YouTube Music's Library tab isn't as surprising as many would think. YouTube already released an update for YouTube Music for it to roll out a new grid layout for singles and albums on artist pages that prominently displays the single or album's cover art along with some important information underneath it.

Once again, a Reddit user going by the name u/lordbrack first spotted the feature while sharing it in his Reddit post through some screenshots. It displays two items per row, with the item's title and release year appearing underneath it.
