Microsoft Edge Workspace Lets Users Share a Set of Browser Tabs

Microsoft has been busy working on its products and services. Its latest project is the release of a limited public preview of its newest feature, wherein users can save a set of browser tabs and share them through a link.

Although Microsoft already gave a peek at what the new feature is like last year, the latest preview offers users a more in-depth experience to see how it works. Users can now save a collection of tabs and put them in a labeled group in the Microsoft Edge browser.

The browser already has a function like this, which is Edge's Collection feature. However, the Edge Workspaces will not only let you save and organize tabs but share them with other users as well who can also make changes to the tabs in real time.

Microsoft states that this lets users get more things done and stay organized online, which streamlines tasks or projects, without having to send links back and forth. The feature functions as a shared view of the group's web pages and documents within one browser window.

The sharing feature does not share private information from your own browser and only includes the tabs you choose to share with others. Microsoft emphasized that it is not screen sharing and that your browser data will remain secure.

This goes for personal account data like logins, cookies, and passwords. A user will need a Microsoft account and log in with their own credentials to access content or request access to a resource like a Microsoft 365 document if they do not have it yet.

How to Access the Preview

You can access the preview by opening the Microsoft Edge browser and making sure that you have an account logged in. Although, you also need to download the 111.0.1661.51 version of the browser or higher to do so.

Microsoft offers five invites that you can send to friends, family, or co-workers to join the preview. Since it is a limited preview, the number of invites is limited, and it may not be available to use at the moment.

The company will be starting with a limited group of users initially in order to gather feedback on what they can improve on. They will then expand to more users over the coming months. As of right now, it is only available on PC and Mac.

Once you have the browser open, you can click on the "Invite" button found on the right side of Edge's address bar, and then proceed to click "Copy link." You can then send that link through any messaging app or services such as Slack, Messenger, or email.

As mentioned by The Verge, it will open a new window when you create a new Workspace, which means you have to open Workspace first before you open the set of tabs you want to share with others. Otherwise, you will have to copy and paste each link to the new Workspace.
