CD Projekt Red To Release Cyberpunk 2077 DLC Playtest Soon

Gamers may soon try out Cd Projekt Red's upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 DLC.

The popular Poland-based video game developer recently teased gamers with a playtest of Phantom Liberty, Cyberpunk 2077's upcoming expansion.

The expansion, which is the game's first paid DLC, will be available for download for all gamers sometime in the latter half of 2023, per Screenrant, though Forbes speculates that the expansion will be available sometime in August.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Playtest Details

CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 team mentioned in the game's official Twitter account that it would start talking about Phantom Liberty come June, hyping up the expansion and its potential release sometime for gamers in the latter half of 2023.

Interestingly, however, the team also mentioned that it would have "hands-on sessions" for press and content creators and plenty of "hands-on opportunities" for the game's community at a later date. When asked to clarify what it meant when it said hands-on opportunities for our community, the team answered that the game's players would get a chance to play the expansion before CD Projekt Red officially releases it.

PCGamesN, the publication that first spotted the teaser, believes that the opportunity CD Projekt Red mentioned is a playtest that the company will provide to gamers in some way before the expansion's official release date. Unfortunately, CD Projekt Red nor the Cyberpunk 2077 team didn't offer any hints about what gamers could look forward to in the expansion's playtest.

Games journalists, media members, and content creators seem to be also welcome to the playtest CD Projekt Red plans on releasing, though it is highly probable that the company would give them a taste of what to expect at the upcoming Summer Game Fest. For those unaware, the event is scheduled to kick off on June 8, with a live showcase from event host and organizer Geoff Keighley, per Nintendo Life.

CD Projekt Red's mention of the Summer Game Festival further solidifies the theory that it is releasing the game sometime in the latter half of 2023, though how soon from June is still a mystery at this time.

What To Expect With Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is the first and only expansion for the game, according to Dexerto. It is expected to offer players of the base game a brand new setting, which could be Night City's Combat Zone, an area inaccessible in-game as of press time.

The game's official website mentioned that Phantom Liberty is a spy-thriller that puts V, the game's protagonist, on an "impossible mission" of espionage and survival using new skills, weapons, and tech.

Not much is known about the expansion's story, though Keanu Reeves is confirmed to be reprising his role as Johnny Silverhand for the expansion, as featured in the expansion's teaser.

It is possible that CD Projekt Red made Phantom Liberty with the advancements featured in the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in mind, as players could only enjoy it on those consoles along with high-end PCs, per Games Radar.
