PlayStation Showcase 2023 — Here Are the Most Exciting Reveals

Sony certainly knows how to excite its gaming community.

The tech giant recently revealed more than a few trailers for games coming to PlayStation consoles on its recently streamed PlayStation Showcase 2023, showing what gamers can look forward to in the immediate and foreseeable future.

While the event featured a significant amount of trailers, only a few truly got gamers' attention and excited them to no end. Here are the most exciting reveals Sony exhibited in PlayStation Showcase 2023, in case you missed it.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

Sony really ended its PlayStation Showcase 2023 with a bang; the company put its best and most-awaited reveal for last, and it didn't disappoint.

Sony featured a gameplay demo of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 as its final reveal in the event, showcasing many new additions that gamers can look forward to when it releases in late 2023 (sorry, no specific release date yet).

From what we can gather from the demo, players can switch between Peter Parker and Miles Morales at least at some points in the game. Whether players can switch between both Spider-Men outside of story missions is still unclear.

What is clear, though, is that Peter would be rocking the Venom Symbiote a la Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3," though instead of the symbiote bonding to Peter's suit, the symbiote wraps around Peter instead, forming the black version of his spidey-suit. It's from this bond wrapping that the symbiote's tendrils come from when Peter slams enemies against hard surfaces.

The game also features a gliding mechanic for both Spider-Men, while Miles would have new gadgets and powers, such as the Web grabber and Thunder Burst ability, respectively, per PlayStation Blog

Story-wise, it seems Peter and the gang would eventually know about Harry Osborne's condition, though how they did exactly is unclear; the demo didn't give any hints on how they knew.

Dragon's Dogma 2

Capcom may have revealed a Street Fighter 6 story trailer during PlayStation Showcase 2023, but what caught gamers' attention the most is the first gameplay reveal trailer for Dragon's Dogma 2, the sequel of the company's 2012 fantasy medieval RPG of the same name sans number.

The gameplay reveal trailer shows that Dragon's Dogma 2 may still be in Gransys, the same place the first game was set. Gamers are still playing as an Arisen, though there are hints that the sequel is, instead, a prequel due to the youthful look of a certain Duke.

The game still features the vocation system players loved in the first game, but it seems Capcom added or improved all nine of them entirely. Pawns make a return, though unlike in the first game where they serve as cold, unfeeling partners that only give out hints about missions and enemy weaknesses, they are more interactable and feel more "alive."

Capcom also added a new beast-like race called beastren into the game, though whether players could make a beastren Arisen to play is still unclear.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Remake

Konami has finally done what the fans want after so many years. Metal Gear Solid fans wept when the company updated the graphics of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater not for a remake or a remaster of the much-beloved game but for their pachinko slot machines.

Thankfully, Konami listened to fans and revealed a teaser trailer for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Unfortunately, it didn't reveal much about the game apart from Naked Snake emerging from a mangrove forest to the tune of the game's titular theme song, "Snake Eater."

Thankfully, a quick look at the game's official website states that it would allegedly feature the same story and game design - a faithful recreation at that - but with updated graphics and 3D audio. The bad news is that it didn't mention anything about the gameplay; Konami could reveal more about it in the future.

Assassin's Creed: Mirage

Ubisoft's gameplay trailer for Assassin's CreedMirage is a love letter for fans of the series' classic games. The trailer features Basim freerunning on obstacles and equipment reminiscent of Assassin's Creed 2, Brotherhood, and Assassin's Creed 3, along with a few new ways to get around Baghdad.

Smoke bombs, throwing knives, and urban stealth make a return, but Ubisoft has something new in store: Basim seems to have a supernatural ability that allows him to strike multiple opponents almost simultaneously.

Whether Mirage would feature RPG elements like those found in many recent AC games is still unclear, but Bloomberg's Jason Schreier previously assured fans it won't.
