Google’s Pixel Watch Can Switch Off if It’s Too Hot — Here’s How

Your Google Pixel Watch knows hows to cool down when it's too hot.

A Reddit user recently discovered a nifty feature Google added in its Pixel Watches to protect the device from overheating in less-than-ideal ambient temperatures.

The Google Pixel Watch is available for purchase from the official Google Store for $299.99.

Google Pixel Watch Auto-Shut Down Feature Details

A Reddit user going by the name jab_storm82 recently posted a picture on the r/PixelWatch subreddit of a feature he didn't know about before. According to his story, he left his Google Pixel Watch in his car while he spent all day on a lake. When he came back after some time, he found a notification that his Google Pixel Watch automatically switched off due to the high temperature in the car to cool itself down.

According to the post, the notification reads: "Watch was too warm: It turned off to cool down and is now running normally."

A report from 9to5Google mentioned that the Pixel Watch, like Google's Pixel Phones, is designed to work in ambient temperatures between 32 degrees Fahrenheit and 95 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celcius and 35 degrees Celsius), citing a Google Support webpage. It also noted that the watch should be stored between ambient temperatures of -4 degrees Fahrenheit and 113 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 degrees Celsius and 45 degrees Celcius).

As a result, if a Google Pixel Phone or a Google Pixel Watch detects that ambient temperatures are less than ideal on the hot side, they will switch themselves off automatically to prevent themselves from overheating - a fact that jab_storm82 found out with his own Google Pixel Watch.

Should either of these devices be exposed to temperatures above 113 degrees Fahrenheit (45 degrees Celcius), such as being on a car dashboard or overheating, the heat may damage them, overheat the battery, or become a fire hazard.

Google adding this feature to its Pixel Watches is part of its design to protect the device from getting damaged and their wearers from getting hurt should they put it on after being exposed to such temperatures. This fact is especially true, considering that summer is just around the corner in the US and the rest of the northern hemisphere.

Other Google Pixel Watch Features

Aside from the auto shut down to prevent itself from overheating, the Google Pixel Watch also comes with a variety of features to make it worth your buck. For instance, it gives users easier access to Google Assistant, per Android Police, and can serve as a payment method through its tap-to-pay feature.

Additionally, it can give users directions whether they're biking, driving, or walking without taking out a phone, preventing them from getting distracted while on the road.

Last but not least is its integration with Fitbit, giving users data regarding their fitness and health for them to decide what to do to be and remain healthy and fit.
