7 Tech-Related Phobias You Probably Haven’t Heard Of

There are a lot of phobias that people could have such as the most common one, acrophobia, which is the fear of heights. However, there are other lesser-known ones that you might not even know about, especially the technology-related ones, here are a few of them.

1. Loremophobia

The dark abyss that is the corner of the couches has taken many items from us. Upon lifting the cushions, you'll find various items like keys and spare change. It's also the place where the remote control tends to go hide. Some people are actually afraid of losing their remote controls more than others and it's called loremophobia. 

2. Nomophobia

The invention of smartphones has given us a small device that can serve as a multifunctional tool. You can use it as an alarm clock, a calculator, a flashlight, and more, which is why it's unsurprising that many are too attached to them.

Nomophobia is the fear of not being able to access your phone whether it's because of low battery or if it's lost. According to Axios, 53% of people feel nervous or anxious when they can't use their phones.

3. Selfiephobia

Although it's not really recognized by experts yet, the term has been used a lot in social media. Selfiephobia is quite self-explanatory, where people are afraid to take selfies. There are various reasons such as feeling like they might not be photogenic, or they just don't want to see their faces on uploaded photos online.

4. Cyberphobia

Cyberphobia is the fear of computers. Although many of us use the computer on a daily bases whether it's for work or entertainment, some people steer clear of them. Usually, it's because their afraid of potential privacy risks when browsing through the internet, which is justifiable since social media platforms tend to require a lot of information from you.

5. Telephonophobia

Although it translates to "fear of telephones," it's not as simple as that. People don't just scream and run away at the sight of a telephone Instead, they're afraid of it ringing and having to answer. This has something to do with either not knowing who's calling, or fear of making a fool out of yourself, as mentioned in Electronic Products. Next time, text first.

6. Technophobia

This is just the general term for being afraid of technology. The phobia was more prevalent during the Industrial Revolution especially since it was all relatively new. However, there are still some who are afraid of them now in the modern world. It's sometimes linked to how difficult it can be to use them, especially for people who don't use electronics much.

7. Drosmartoiphobia

This fear is technically a common thing, but some people get more anxious about it. Drosmartoiphobia is the fear of dropping your phone in the toilet. Owners usually bring their phones to the bathroom to occupy themselves while doing... certain things. If you have this fear, it's best to leave your phone out before entering the bathroom.
