Microsoft Preps for Window Updates, Hints Possible Windows 12 Release

During the Microsoft Build 2023 developer conference, rumors about Windows 12 have begun circulating. 

According to softonic, during the conference, Microsoft brought the idea of the "next generation" of Windows which was referred to as "Next Valley Prototype Design."  

Microsoft has not confirmed or denied any plans for Windows but the company is now leaning to integrate AI-powered features. 

"As we start to develop future versions of Windows we'll think about other places where AI should play a natural role in terms of the experience," said Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft's head of consumer marketing during an interview with The Verge.

Windows 12 Expectations  

In an article in Windows Central, the following are the features that might be included in Windows 12:  

  • New lock and login screens that are optimised for touch
  • New notification centre with ability to group notifications by person or app
  • Ability to pin widgets to desktop
  • New dynamic wallpaper feature, using AI to create "parallax" effect as you move cursor or device 

With these possible upgrades, Windows 12 is also expected to have different hardware requirements.

Windows 12 Release Date Rumor  

Speculators are guessing that Microsoft will probably release Windows 12 around the third quarter of 2024, with a broader rollout in 2025. 

Although there are chances of the project being a Windows 11 update, some are still hoping for Windows 12 to finally roll out.
