Google Explores Supercharge Assistant Powered with AI

Google is reportedly adding generative AI to Assistant.

In an email obtained by Axios, Google explained the significant potential of generative AI, thus creating a supercharged Assistant.

"As a team, we need to focus on delivering high-quality, critical product experiences for our users," the email stated.

No exact timeline was mentioned as per the email, but the company wrote that a portion of its team has already started working on the supercharged Assistant for mobile.

Supercharged Google Assistant

The new and improved Assistant will be powered by the latest large language models (LLM). These models are similarly used in ChatGPT and Google Bard chatbots.

"We remain deeply committed to Assistant and we are optimistic about its bright future ahead," vice president for Google, Peeyush Ranjan and director of product Duke Dukellis wrote.

Aside from Google, Amazon is also working on giving its digital assistant, Alexa, an AI feature.

Google Eliminates Roles

Google decided to make the team smaller by eliminating small number of roles within the Assistant team. The company has given a minimum of 60 day internal search period for the affected employees.

"These have been incredibly difficult decisions, so please support teammates who are processing this news," Google wrote.

In addition, some changes also included various leadership positions. As of writing, Google has yet to make its official announcement about the future of Assistant.
