The Next Nintendo Switch

Nintendo is already developing the successor of its latest handheld console and details about it have already been revealed. In fact, the company might be close to finishing the device as third-party developers already have the development hardware for it.

According to several sources, the console might be released in the second half of next year. Like its predecessor, it will also be portable, along with new features that would make it significantly better.

For one, rumors say that it will have a cartridge slot, which means that players might not be limited to purchasing games digitally. There is a setback to the new console. Sources also say that from LED and OLED screens, the next generation console will feature an LCD screen.

This means that the video quality will not be as good. On the bright, the company is using LCD to keep the cost down, as reported by Ars Technica, in order to make room for other improvements that will enhance gameplay.

Nintendo reportedly plans to upgrade the next console's CPU, GPU, or memory. The lower cost of screens will make up for the higher costs of other hardware. With the expansion of storage, players will be able to install bigger game files without the need for a MicroSD card.

The company wants to keep the user base of the current Switch console, which could mean that the next generation Nintendo Switch might be backward compatible, although that's still not confirmed, just like the other reported new features.

Another Handheld Arriving Sooner

In case you haven't heard, there's also another handheld that's about to enter the market. PlayStation plans to release a handheld console that lets gamers play PS5 games remotely. Users will have the same controls as a DualSense controller and an 8-inch screen.

Still, it looks like Nintendo Switch still wins when it comes to portability and being a standalone console. The handheld PS5 console or "Project Q" will not be able to function without an actual PS5 console.

It's still not clear whether players will be able to play using the handheld outside of their household. Although, some believe that users will be able to use Sony's Remote Play technology to add portability to the device.

Through Wi-Fi, a player can connect their handheld to the console itself and play games they already bought. Unlike the second-generation Nintendo Switch, people won't have to wait around a year before they'll be able to get the device.

According to The Verge, the console might arrive as early as November 2023. Like the Nintendo Switch successor, it will also have an LCD screen, which means that the current Nintendo Switch is still better in terms of video quality.
