Google Raises Nest Aware Subscription Price by $30

Google is raising its prices for its Nest Aware service.

The search giant recently revealed it is hiking the subscription price of its Nest Aware service - the first time Google has done so since 2020.

Google revamped its Nest Aware service in 2020 to consolidate and simplify the management of Nest devices to a single subscription device for an increased price.

Google Nest Aware Price Increase Details

Google revealed in an email to subscribers that it is raising the subscription price of its Nest Aware service by $2 monthly and $20 annually, per 9to5Google. As a result, new Nest Aware subscribers must pay either $8 monthly or $80 annually to sign up for the service.

Meanwhile, its higher tier service, Nest Aware Plus, gets a $3 price increase for its monthly subscription fee and a $30 price hike to its annual subscription fee. Those who wish to subscribe to Nest Aware Plus must now pay $15 monthly or $150 annually to sign up for the service.

Existing subscribers won't have to worry about losing certain additional features exclusive to Nest Aware Plus. They can still get up to 10 days of 24/7 video history and 60 days of event video history through the service.

The price increase doesn't affect customers who got Nest Aware subscriptions through one of its partners, like ADT. However, new subscribers must pay the new prices effective Sept. 1, while existing subscribers will see the new prices on their next bill that occurs on or after Nov. 6.

Google Nest Aware subscribers in other countries/territories will get a notification from Google at least 30 days before the impending price increase. Even when the new pricing is in effect, subscribers' current benefits will remain the same with 30 days of event video history, smart alerts, and other helpful features, per CNET.

Google explained that the price increase is a way to "keep up with market shifts, which can include inflation and local tax updates." This reasoning is in line with the current trend of service providers increasing their subscription prices due to market shifts and inflation.

You may recall that Spotify increased its subscription fee for the first time since its launch for unknown reasons. However, inflation and economic uncertainties probably forced the company to raise prices to offset its losses due to these factors.

How To Cancel Google Nest Aware Subscription

Google Nest Aware subscribers who find the price increase a few dollars too much or not worth paying can cancel their subscriptions anytime. However, those that do will lose the sound detection clips and video they haven't saved.

Google advises those who wish to cancel their Nest Aware subscription to determine where they bought their subscription and check the Nest Aware cancellation policies before they do. Those who subscribed through the Google Store must follow these instructions:

  1. Go to the Google Store Subscription Management page and sign into their Google account connected with their subscription.
  2. On the "Subscriptions" page, select the subscription you'd like to cancel.
  3. Select More on the right and then Cancel subscription.
  4. Select Cancel subscription to complete the cancellation.
