6 HBO Original Shows That Make the Streaming Service Worth It

It's a dilemma to pick which streaming service to subscribe to nowadays. It can be costly for some to pay a monthly fee for one, let alone several. Fortunately, you don't really have to subscribe at the same time, and some services offer better original content than others. Here are some from HBO that make the streaming service worth the price.

1. 'Game of Thrones'

With it being one of the most popular TV shows out there, you might've already seen it. If you're one of the few who hasn't, you could try and see what the hype is all about. It revolves around prominent and powerful houses waging war for the throne.

Of course, it's not just that. Others are just fighting to survive, and in the midst of all that, you'll meet interesting characters played by amazingly talented actors. The rich narrative and brilliantly written world will have you binging an entire season in one sitting.

2. 'The Last of Us'

The show is an adaptation based on the popular video game of the same title. You can tell that the show is good based solely on how the video game's fans are applauding it, saying that other streaming services should take the live-action adaptation as an example of how things are done.

Like the game, the story is about Joel and Ellie navigating through a post-apocalyptic world fighting through hordes of humans infected with the Cordyceps fungi. All that with the fact that Ellie is uniquely immune to the infection.

3. 'Chernobyl'

The miniseries is based on real events that happened at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant back in 1986. Known as one of the most disastrous accidents in history caused by humans, the series shows how people tried to contain the aftermath of the explosion.

The story draws you in as you watch the tragedy and sacrifice that the plant workers and firefighters went through, making sure that the Soviet nuclear power plant does not take more lives due to radiation.

High school dramas in TV shows always have a certain flair that shows how teenage years can be hell for someone, but Zendaya's portrayal of a drug addict who has been to rehab at just seventeen years old, the shows takes that flair to a whole new level.

You'll also meet characters you'll root for like Maddy, who remains headstrong despite everything that is thrown her way. Despite being a drug dealer, you'll also be soft for Fezco who cares for his friends and adoptive brother (may the actor, Angus Cloud, rest in peace).

5. 'Succession'

There's a reason why the show has gotten high ratings from various sites. The narrative is full of twists and turns and just when you think that the worst is over, you'll get hit with more scenes that will make you grateful for not being in the kind of family that they have.

Sure, the characters may be cruel, but that's part of what makes the show intense and interesting. It gives us a peak of what could happen inside a family-run company giant when plans spin out of control.

6. 'House of the Dragon'

Set almost 200 years before the events in "Game of Thrones," it shows a time when the Targaryens were at the height of their power. It's also a time when the silver-haired families have already fled their home, Valyria.

Just like the initial show from the same universe, it's also a story about the families fighting over the Iron Throne. This time though, you'll be seeing more dragons than just the three that Daenerys Targaryen have, including the giant Vhagar.
