Verizon HTC One and Moto X available for free using promo code

If you've been considering making a move to Verizon, you can pick up two of its most popular smartphones for free when using a special promo code for a limited time.

Verizon famously passed on offering its customers the HTC One, while AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile all committed to bringing the smartphone to its customers. After the three U.S. carriers released the HTC One, Verizon customers began pressuring the carrier into bringing the smartphone to its network through various online petitions. Verizon finally caved in and eventually started offering the smartphone to its customers..

August was certainly shaping up to be a busy month for Verizon as it had just launched its DROID family of smartphones, the HTC One, and was preparing for the late August release of the Moto X. Verizon didn't make the same play when it came to the Moto X as it did with the HTC One. The carrier joined AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile with a near simultaneous launch of the smartphone.

You can now get either of those smartphones for free from Verizon when using a special promo code at checkout.

As a reminder, the HTC One features a 4.7-inch 1080 x 1920  Full HD Super LCD 3 display that is also scratch-resistant. It ships with Android 4.1.2 but will be updated to Android 4.4 KitKat by the end of January, according to HTC. The company has used a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor and 2GB of RAM, which makes HTC Sense run very smoothly.

HTC is using its UltraPixel rear camera technology, which employs its own dedicated chip to take the best photos, regardless of the situation, and also has the ability to record 1080p video. When it comes to wireless connectivity, the HTC One has a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and NFC. The power button also acts as an IR blaster, turning the smartphone into a universal remote with an always up-to-date program guide. HTC ships the handset with a non-removable 2,300 mAh battery.

If you'd like an Android smartphone that is as close to stock Android as possible and want Android 4.4 KitKat out of the gate, the Verizon Moto X is the perfect choice. It features a 4.7-inch 720p AMOLED HD display and is powered by a custom dual-core 1.7Ghz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with Motorola's X8 Computing System and an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit (GPU). The handset runs Android 4.4 KitKat right out of the box.

The smartphone ships with 16GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM. The rear camera has a 10-megapixel sensor and can record 1080p video, while its front-facing camera has a 2-megapixel shooter for video chat. When it comes to connectivity, the Moto X comes with a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. Motorola has also included a 2,200 mAh battery that offers excellent battery life.

You can order the HTC One or Moto X through Verizon's online store and when you get to checkout, enter "TECHBAR" in the promo code area. After the promo code is applied, your new Verizon HTC One or Moto X will be free. As expected, you'll need to sign a 2-year contract for this deal.
