Nokia begins selling 6-inch Nokia Lumia 1320 phablet

After officially announcing the 6-inch Nokia Lumia 1320 in October, Nokia has announced the phablet is now available for purchase.

Nokia has been growing its family of Windows-based devices over the last couple of months. The company launched the first Windows Phone phablet with the Lumia 1520 and it also brought its first Windows-based tablet to market with the Lumia 2520. Both the Lumia 1520 and Lumia 2520 are Nokia's current flagship devices and both have price tags to match the title.

When Nokia launched its entry-level Lumia 520/521 smartphone, the handset quickly became the company's most popular smartphone, easily outselling the more powerful and feature-rich Lumias. The less expensive smartphone runs the latest version of Windows Phone and includes most of the exclusive software Nokia uses in its more expensive phones.

As Nokia focuses more on the phablet front, it has launched what could be considered the Lumia 520 of the phablet world with the Lumia 1320. The Lumia 1320 offers users a 6-inch display, just like the Lumia 1520, but in order to keep costs down, the company is using a LCD IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 instead of the 1920 x 1080 Full HD display found on the Lumia 1520.

The Lumia 1320 also ships with a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor instead of the quad-core processor powering the Lumia 1520.  Nokia has included 8GB of internal storage, a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 64GB microSD cards for expanded storage, and 1GB of RAM. The company decided to use a 5-megapixel rear camera.

When it comes to the choice of battery inside the Lumia 1320, Nokia didn't skimp and decided to ship the phablet with the same large 3,400 mAh battery used in the Lumia 1520. Nokia claims that the large battery will provide up to 21 hours of 3G talk time and about 100 hours of continuous music playback.

The Lumia 1320 just went on sale in China and is priced at around $412 with no contract. There have been rumors that the Lumia 1320 will be making its way to the U.S. in the near future, but for now we'll have to wait for Nokia to make an official announcement.
