Fortnite to Launch Age and Content Ratings for Content

The Fortnite team partnered with the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) to create "internationally recognized age and content ratings." The feature will be applicable to all first and third-party playable content on the game.

Starting November 14, all content published in Fortnite should abide by and be rated with an IARC-assigned rating. All creators will be required to fill out the IARC content rating questionnaire. Afterward, the content and assigned rating will be reviewed by Epic moderators.

The IARC questionnaire will be available starting October 16 and creators are advised to study and get assigned rating information for their islands. By November 14, all unrated islands will be delisted from the game.

Fortnite Creative by Epic Games

Epic Games launched Fortnite Creative in 2018 with the goal of pushing the boundaries of creativity within the game.  Since then, users have been allowed to recreate Fortnite using their own designs and rules by creating a personal island.

Fortnite Creative allows up to 16 players to lobby and get in the game together. In addition, there are various unique games that players can choose from, which are also created by other players. While the game opened various entertainment there was also the risk of young players getting exposed to non-age-appropriated content.

"As Fortnite continues to evolve into a multi-game ecosystem featuring a diverse range of games and experiences from Epic and third-party creators, the IARC rating system gives parents and players access to trusted and familiar ratings that help them make informed decisions about what and how they play," the Fortnite team explained.
