Verizon to offer prepaid Moto G for $99.99

Verizon has announced it will begin offering the Motorola Moto G as a pre-paid smartphone for $99.99 on Jan. 9.

Motorola announced the Moto G in November and has marketed the device as a very capable smartphone at an affordable price. The Moto G shares a similar design to the company's flagship Moto X and brings premium features such as a 4.5-inch HD display and quad-core processor to a smartphone that can be purchased unlocked for less than $200.

The company currently offers the unlocked Moto G for $179 8GB and $199 16GB through its online store. The unlocked GSM Moto G is capable of running on AT&T and T-Mobile's 3G networks and a version capable of running on Verizon's network has just become official.

Verizon has announced that it will begin selling the Moto G online and in its retail stores on Jan. 9. The Moto G will be available as part of the carrier's pre-paid smartphone lineup and will be priced at a very affordable $99.99.

As a reminder, the Moto G features a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 LCD display with a pixel density of 329 pixels per inch (ppi). Motorola has chosen to use a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with MSM 8x26, Adreno 305 graphics and 1GB of RAM. The Moto G ships with 8GB of internal storage and users will also benefit from 50GB of cloud space through Google Drive for two years.

The smartphone's camera capabilities include a 5-megapixel rear camera with 4x digital zoom, panorama, and slow motion video. The Moto G will come with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but Verizon has already announced that an Android 4.4 KitKat upgrade will be available in the near future. In terms of wireless connectivity you'll find a 3G radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS. Motorola ships the Moto G with a 2,070 mAh non-removable battery. Users will be able to customize the Moto G through the use of removable back plates and cases sold separately.

The Verizon Moto G will be available online and in retail stores on Jan. 9 for $99.99
