Prime Air Promotes Drone Deliveries

The company has been testing drone deliveries for a year already. Amazon has been delivering packages that weigh up to five pounds in one hour or less. Recently, the company has begun using drones to deliver prescription medication in Texas City as part of its experimental testing to deliver goods by air.

Prime also unveiled its new MK30 drone design which featured a quieter, smaller, and lighter look compared to the previous ones. "We've also taken great care to ensure that our drones' design philosophy and demonstrated levels of safety are setting a higher bar for safety across the commercial drone delivery industry, working closely with regulators to design to the highest standard set within those regulations," Amazon wrote

According to Amazon, the drone deliveries will be fully operational in all three locations by the end of 2024. Eligible Amazon customers can choose the drone delivery option as long as the item fits the weight limit. The company also promised to reveal more details soon.

How Does Amazon's Drone Deliveries Work?

The MK30 drone is equipped with a sense and avoid technology that makes it capable of detecting and preventing bumping into obstacles like pets, people, and even property. Moreover, customers can be assured that the deliveries will not take that much attention as the new design is twice as quiet compared to its previous model.

When it comes to the process, the drones take off vertically from the ground and will gradually transition into a horizontal flight. The delivery will typically take about an hour or less to arrive. Fortunately, the MK30 is now capable of flying even in light rain.

Amazon worked closely with regulators and governments globally in order to expand its drone delivery service. While the service will be limited for now, the company promised that they will continue to work in order to bring ultra-fast drone delivery to as many Amazon customers as can safely enable.
