Spotify Audiobook Becomes Available for US Premium Subscribers

Further expanding its wide range of audio selections, Spotify announced that 200,000  audiobooks available for Premium users in the U.S. starting today.

Audiobook lovers will have 15 hours of uninterrupted streaming per month from the selected catalog, from "cozy mystery" to "historical romance." And if that is not enough, users can purchase 1 10-hour top-up later.

Users can access already access both modern best sellers and classic literatures, including Britney Spears' The Woman in Me, Jesmyn Ward's Let Us Descend, and The Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë.

Spotify audiobooks have been previously been only available to the United Kingdom and Australia.

How to Avail the Spotify Audiobook?

Spotify's newest feature already comes in with the $11 subscription and can be accessed right away.

The caveat is that only a select titles are available for free streaming. The rest require additional purchase before reading.

Those books will have a lock on the play button that can only be removed by going to the Spotify online app store in the link provided. Once completed, users can listen to their new book online and offline.

Spotify's playback feature also applies to the audiobooks, so users can adjust the reading pace according to their taste.

It is not cheaper than its competitor, Audible, but also provides additional podcasts and songs that can be used as a background music while enjoying the stories right into the ears.

Spotify's Expanding Audio Services

The streaming platform revealed the audiobook plan a month ago in a bid to 72% of American Gen Z and millennials regularly listening to audiobooks.

The move came after Spotify acquired audiobook distributor Findaway in June 2022 for $119 million in cash. A $13.2 million additional was promised to retain certain Findaway employees.

Spotify expects its step into the audiobook market will be "highly accretive to the business" with a 40% gross margin.
