Amazon Music Employee Population Decreases

According to the people familiar with the situation, positions under Amazon Music's editorial and audio content team are affected by the layoff. However, there was no official count as to how many employees were cut down from the music division. Meanwhile, Amazon explained that it is part of the company's re-organization and prioritization of the long-term health of the business.

The cuts to the music division first began in October, starting with the communications role. Last year, the retail giant eliminated 27,000 positions across the company, making it one of the biggest corporate job cuts in 2022. Bloomberg reported that the layoffs could be a sign of the transition to Prime Video. "We will continue to invest in Amazon Music, and spend our resources on the products and services that matter most to customers, creators, and artists," said an Amazon spokesperson.

Bloomberg reported that the layoffs could be a sign of the transition to Prime Video. This year, Amazon became the home of the National Football League's Thursday Night Football games and has been upgrading the platform every now and then. The company also believes that Prime Video has the potential to become a revenue booster for the company in the following years.

Amazon Pushes Innovation, Introduces New Features

While the retail giant continuously faces legal battles, the company has not stopped investing in various ventures. Recently, Amazon has been investing heavily in AI tools as part of its effort to improve its services. In addition, AI-powered robots are also in use in some facilities in order to streamline warehouse fulfillment.

The company is also making efforts to reduce its negative impact on the environment by ditching plastic packaging in some of its warehouses. Meanwhile, Amazon also launched its own virtual clinic which extends its services to people who need immediate remedies for flu, cough, and cold.

There is no indication if this will be the company's last layoff this year. CEO Andy Jassy confirmed that the company is continuing to reduce expenses through the company, so the layoff series might get another round in the following months.
