New Threads Feature Lets You Delete Your Account Separately

Meta's Threads is becoming the app that resembles Twitter more than X. Other than adding more features that make it a preferable microblogging platform, it is also changing certain features and policies that people have complained about.

Separate Deletion of Accounts

One of the concerns of Threads users is that if they no longer want to have an account on the social media app, they cannot delete it since they are required to delete their Instagram accounts as well to do so.

Luckily, Meta was true to their world when they said that they were "listening to feedback" and released a new feature that finally separates the two. Initially, the two accounts were linked since users had to sign in with their Instagram accounts.

This was convenient since they would already be following the people they did on the photo-centric app. As a solution, Threads has a new feature that will let you delete or deactivate your Threads account with no consequences to your Instagram account.

Instagram Head Adam Mosseri announced that the feature can be found in the Settings menu in the "Delete or Deactivate" section. As mentioned in The Verge, not everyone has the option yet, but it will likely be rolled out to all users soon enough.

Even before the complaints just after the app was first launched, Mossero was already looking into making it possible to delete the account separately. With the new feature, you can opt for deactivating it if you wish to stay out of the social media site temporarily.

Upon opening the mentioned section, you'll be presented with two buttons. The first one is for deactivation and the second one is for deletion. As you would in other social media apps, you can reactivate your account by simply logging back in.

Your Threads profile, content, likes, and followers will remain and will become visible again once the account has been activated. There's no indication that you can only keep your account deactivated for a limited amount of time, so it might mean that you can for as long as you need.

Automatic Cross-Platform Posting Fixed

A lot of users were not too happy about their Threads posts being shared on Facebook and Instagram, especially since a lot of people tend to use various social media platforms for different purposes, but Threads made it possible to opt out of the automatic posting.

Previously, the Threads posts would appear in their own section on Facebook where people could swipe through to see more content. Meta calls the section "For You on Threads." With the recent change, you can toggle the feature off, as reported by Engadget.

To do so, go to your profile page and select the menu located at the top right. On there, you can select Privacy and then "Suggesting posts on other apps." You'll find two toggles for both Facebook and Instagram so you may choose separately for both platforms.
