X Suffers System Outage, Breaks Site Links Again

A system outage in X (formerly Twitter) broke all outgoing links from the platform again this Wednesday afternoon.

Clicking any URL posted on X will result in the user being redirected to an error message saying "his page is down."

Accounts using the web browser version were greeted by another error message: "I scream. You scream. We all scream... for us to fix this page. We'll stop making jokes and get things up and running soon."

The problem was in X's link-shortening service t.co, Variety reported. The technical difficulties lasted for over 45 minutes.

Elon Musk's X Suffers Technical Problems, System Bugs

This was not the first time the link-shortening service broke down. A similar incident occurred in March in which accessing any links on the platform caused a weird message to pop up.

Lasting for over an hour, many users complained of seeing the notification: "Your current API plan does not include access to this endpoint, please see https://developer.twitter.com/en/docs/twitter-api for more information," they click an outgoing link.

X blamed "an internal change that had some unintended consequences" for the outage.

The link service also caused another problem in May when many web users were unceremoniously logged out while accessing links via X. In June, the social media blocked access to non-registered site users.

The issue was supposed to be a "temporary emergency measure" to prevent third-party companies from "scraping" data and overloading their systems.

Musk has insisted on the t.co service on the platform because "links don't get as much attention."

More Technical Issues Under Elon Musk's Twitter

X has suffered several major exploits and technical problems following the mass layoff of almost all of the technical staff of the old Twitter.

The hashtag #TwitterDown has trended several times this year alone as the site became unusable.

In February, users reported having problems in posting and accessing direct messages on the platform. The issue was later followed by Musk limiting how many posts nonsubscribers can see daily.

Major app exploits were also discovered on top of the issues as many users bypassed X's blue checkmark paywall or its copyright system by posting full pirated films on the site.

All of these are on top of the decreasing web traffic on the platform since Musk took over Twitter in October last year.
