Spotify Lets Select Users Generate Playlists Using AI

AI is pretty much everywhere nowadays. Social media apps have been racing to provide the best AI features, as well as streaming sites like YouTube. Spotify is not new to the AI scene with its AI DJ and intends to add more features like generating playlists through AI.

AI-Generated Playlists on Spotify

The new feature is still in its testing stage and only select users can try it out. To see if you have it, you can check by heading to Your Library and selecting the plus icon to create a new playlist. If you do, you'll see three choices which are Playlist, Blend, and AI Playlist.

Like most generative AI tools, you can instruct the AI about what kind of music you like by typing in text prompts. Spotify also offers suggestions like "Fill the silence with background cafe music" or "Get pumped up with fun, upbeat, and positive songs."

The music streaming service has already confirmed that it was testing its AI playlist, as reported by Engadget, although it's still unclear whether the feature will be rolled out more widely to users. If the tests go well, the company probably will.

Spotify said in a statement that they are routinely conducting a number of tests, and that some of them end up "paving the path for our broader experience and others serve only as an important learning." That's all the company is willing to reveal for now.

In the video shown by TikTok users @robdad_, the feature also stated that it was only available in English. If Spotify were to roll out the function publicly, it's possible that they will add support for other languages down the line.

Once the AI manages to create a playlist for you, you can refine the list by removing the songs you don't like. All you have to do is swipe the title left to remove them. It could be a good way for listeners to discover new music and create playlists for events without spending hours curating a playlist.

Spotify's AI DJ is Surprisingly Good

Back in February, Spotify announced the release of its AI DJ, which serves as a personalized AI guide to music that bases its suggestions on your listening habits and music taste. Aside from playing songs, it will add a short commentary about the tracks as well.

The songs that will be played will vary. Sometimes, the DJ will put on a series of songs that you used to constantly listen to but suddenly stopped, which is a great way of rediscovering the music you used to love but forgot about.

It will also listen to your music history to determine which of the new releases you might want to listen to. Over time, the DJ can even suggest better content for you after providing feedback. If you don't like the song that's currently playing, just tap the DJ to switch.

To access the DJ, head to your Music Feed on the home page of the Spotify app and tap Play on the DJ card. When you do decide to switch, the AI DJ will either change the mood, the genre, or the artist.
