Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding Will Be Adapted by ‘Uncut Gems’ Studio A24

Hideo Kojima is a well-respected figure in the gaming community, and anyone who has played Death Stranding can attest to the heart that the designer brings into games. As cinematic as the game already is, it will be adapted into a movie with the help of the A24 studio.

Death Stranding Adaptation

The video game Death Stranding revolved around the premise that America was hit with a mysterious cataclysmic event that shrouded it with mystery and unknown creatures. The protagonist is played by Norman Reedus called Sam Porter Bridges.

The players are tasked to finish delivery tasks with the ultimate goal of unifying America again. While it's a video game, most of the 16 million who played the title say that the main appeal to it is the cinematic and atmospheric experience.

A year after the adaptation was announced, we finally have news about the studio that will work on the production, which is A24. The films you've probably heard about that the studio worked on include "Everything Everywhere All At Once" and "Uncut Gems," as per Engadget.

The press release states that the adaptation will "delve into the mysteries surrounding the apocalyptic event called the 'Death Stranding,' which blurred the lines between life and death, and brought forth nightmarish creatures into a world on the brink of collapse."

Unlike most game adaptations, even those who have taken some creative liberties, Kojima clarified that the Death Stranding adaptation will not be a direct translation of the game. It could mean that the events will merely adapt the game's universe but not its narrative.

The goal of the film is not to only cater to fans of the game, but to anyone who loves cinema as well. Kojima added that they are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, "achievable only through the medium of film."

Since Death Stranding contains fictional elements that will likely be recreated using CGI, fans can rest easy based on the work the studio has done with "Everything Everywhere All At Once." Unfortunately, not much has been revealed yet about the upcoming movie.

Other Video Game Adaptations in the Works

The video game world has been a plentiful source material for movie or series adaptations. While older films and shows failed at creating likable content, the recent ones have been received with applause such as "The Last of Us," and "Arcane."

There are more adaptations in development that avid gamers would be happy to hear about. For one, the Borderlands franchise is getting closer to release, although fans have been waiting for it since it was announced back in 2015.

Other film adaptations have already been confirmed but still have no definite timeline such as Cyberpunk 2077, Stray, Ghost Of Tsushima, God of War, and Bioshock, as per CBR. There are already adaptations you can watch now as you wait.

There's "Five Nights at Freddy's," "Sonic the Hedgehog 2," "Uncharted," "Mortal Combat," "Assassin's Creed," and more. As for TV shows, you can check out "Arcane," "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners," and "The Last of Us."
