Sometimes, you even get spoiled when you are just about to watch it.

While some people actually look forward to these spoilers to keep up-to-date with the community, many are more irritated by getting their anticipation ruined.

So here are some tricks you can try to avoid show and movie spoilers on social media.

Just a little spoiler ahead: we did not include the recommendation to just not use social media which is such a cop-out.

Customize Your Feed and Recommendations

If you are using either X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, or Instagram, chances are you are more prone to spoilers if you follow certain topics.

The Best way to remain ignorant of the commotion, at least until you watch it, is to not follow or mute accounts known for posting spoilers immediately after the show or movie premiered. Even the fan art section is not safe!

It is also a good practice to keep away community discussions on these social media platforms as people are sure to discuss spoilers and speculations.

Chrome Extensions

Anti-spoiler Chrome extensions work better on YouTube as third-party tools can block out unwanted videos on your recommendations and homepage.

Extensions like Unhook can hide trending videos from popping up. This is helpful if the show or movie spoiler you are avoiding is the current talk of the town.

You can also take it a step further and block certain keywords via Video Blocker for YouTube where you can filter out words like "death" and "ending" to still enjoy a series or franchise without being spoiled by the latest events.

Use Reddit, Discord

Unlike other social media sites, Reddit and Discord have features specifically intended to prevent newcomers from being spoiled.

Users can easily put a removable block for spoiler texts or blur out pictures. Even the content text can be hidden with a few tags so that the headline of the post can be seen before engaging with it.

There are also moderators actively monitoring these forum platforms so you can be assured that no rogue spoilers can suddenly pop up without warning.

In some cases, people create separate communities or channels where people can freely talk about spoilers so other fans will not be affected.
