Here’s What They Don’t Tell You When You Buy a PS5

For those who don't want to be bothered with figuring out the best setting or component for a PC, or prefer the exclusives that come with a PlayStation, getting a PlayStation 5 might be an easy decision. However, people who are trying to sell you something tend to leave the cons out, so here are some of them.

1. It's Huge

Compared to its predecessor, the PS5 is a bigger unit than you would expect. The PS4 has a height of 53mm, a depth of 305mm, and a width of 275mm. The PS5, on the other hand, has a height of 104mm, a depth of 260mm, and a width of 390mm.

If you intend to mount your console to your wall, you better make sure that they are sturdy brackets as the PS5 weighs about 7.1 lbs, compared to the PS4 of just 6.2 lbs. Even without mounting it, you still need to allot a big space for it.

2. You Might Experience Controller Drift

You might not recognize the term, but you have probably experienced this once or twice when you often play using controllers. In case you don't know, controller drift means that there is movement within your game, even if you're not touching the controller.

This can be a problem, especially if you're playing FPS games. You can try to fix it if you know a thing or two about controllers, but doing so without sufficient knowledge might break it more. If you can't fix the issue, then you'll have to spend $70 for a new one.

3. It Has Limited Storage

Considering the size of video games right now, especially AAA games, the storage of the PS5 might not be enough for you. The slim version of the latest PlayStation console is now at 1TB, while the standard PS5 has 825GB worth of storage.

Even with the upgrade, it still isn't enough. External drives can help you with that problem, but it's not a straightforward solution. You can store games and game saves there on your HSS or SSD, but you'll have to transfer them to the main console before you can play the game.

4. Games Are More Expensive

If you browse through the PlayStation Store for games, you'll notice the eye-watering prices that come with them. When you compare the same titles available on Steam, you'll notice that most are cheaper, even significantly so with select titles.

That's because you have to shoulder the fee that game studios have to pay just to make their game available on the console. After you pony up $500 for the PS5, expect to spend a lot more to play the games available on the platform.

5. Accessories Are Also Pricey

Sony released accessories that pair well with the console, and they're the best option if you want to smoothest compatibility there is. However, it would cost you a lot, and then some, to purchase these accessories.

For instance, if you want to play PlayStation VR games, you'll have to purchase the PS VR 2, which is priced at $550, making it more expensive than the console itself. Also, you can't just choose to buy the VR headset since it needs to be connected to a PS5 to run.
