Martin, HBO Preps for Animated Series

In a blog post before 2023 ended, Martin shared how the animated series "Blue Eye Samurai," inspired him. He also detailed how animated series have come a long way such as the success of "Love Death + Robots."

"As it happens, HBO and I have our own animated projects, set in the world of A SONG OF ICE & FIRE.   None of them have been greenlit yet, but I think we are getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them," Martin announced.

The author also unveiled that there were four ideas for animated shows but two of these projects were subsequently shelved. The "Nine Voyages" was transitioned from a live-action to animation as it could be very expensive with half of the show taking place at sea.

Martin Continues Expansive Work with 'Game of Thrones'

The prequel series to "Game of Thrones" called "House of Dragon" has successfully gained the interest of the fans. HBO has slated the season two to come out this summer.

On the other hand, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Hedge Knight" is the next spinoff in the world of Westeros. The series is expected to have three small-scale seasons which follows Ser Duncan the Tall and Egg the squire.

Currently, there is no assurance that any of the projects will see the light of the day. Martin confirmed that there is no way to know for now as nothing is certain in Hollywood. "But if it does happen, with one or two or all three shows, I hope we can make them as good as gorgeous and gripping as 'Blue Eye Samurai'," he added.
