Creative Emmy Awards: ‘The Last of Us’ Racks Up Eight Wins

The last few years have seen an abundance of adaptations, and there are more to come in the following years. Alas, the "curse" of video game to movie/series adaptations is over, with shows like "The Last of Us" proven. If you don't believe it, the Creative Emmy Awards certainly doesn't agree with you.

'The Last of Us' Sees Several Wins

To say that the show deserved the awards it got is an understatement. While others say that the show did not meet their expectations, the majority of its viewers praised the title for its outstanding performance, story, and VFX.

The role of Nick Offerman as Bill in the episode "Long, Long, Time" earned him the award for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series, while Storm Reid who played Riley won Best Actress in a Drama Series for the episode titled "Left Behind."

Several actors were also nominated in the same category for their performances in the show such as Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen, Anna Torv as Tess, Murray Bartlett as Frank, Lamar Johnson as Henry, and Keivonn Montreal Woodward as Sam.

The performances of the winners were loved by fans. Nick Offerman breathed life into the role of Bill, whose narrative was changed as the series confirmed Bill and Frank's speculated story, and Storm Reid portrayed a character with an intended stronger personality than Ellie.

That's not all. "The Last of Us" also won technical awards such as Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, VFX, Main Title Design, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing, and Picture Editing in a Drama, as listed by Gizmodo.

All were well-deserved awards. The work put behind the prosthetic makeup alone was enough to make the show deserve such praise. Those who have played the game can attest to how realistic the Infected were as they were shown in the game.

What To Know About Season 2

"The Last of Us" was one of the many shows that was affected by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which is why it was subjected to a few delays, pushing its release date further. Production for the second season will start production in February 2024.

The estimated release date was said to be 2025, although the release window has not been narrowed since that announcement. Showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said that they already have a story prepared for the second season.

Furthermore, there have been rumors circulating about the casting of Abby Anderson. Specifically, an insider revealed that Kaitlyn Dever has already been cast as one of the main characters from the second game, as reported by Forbes.

In case you haven't played the second game, the story focuses more on Ellie as the playable character, along with Abby. The latter will be playing a very important role given her action is what ignites the back-and-forth revenge between Ellie and Abby.

Funnily enough, Dever has been cast by fans before for the role of Ellie since she looks similar to the character. With her current age, she is now more appropriate for the role of the former Firefly.
