HTC M8 Home screen image leaks, reveals Android 4.4 KitKat and on screen buttons

An image of the purported HTC M8's Home screen has made its way on to the web confirming the smartphone will have on-screen buttons.

In a few weeks some of our favorite smartphone makers will show off their latest handsets at Mobile World Congress 2014. It's pretty much confirmed that Samsung will kick off the show by unveiling the Galaxy S5 at its Unpacked 5 event on Feb. 24. HTC will attempt to repeat last year's reaction to the HTC One with its new flagship smartphone, the HTC M8.

An image of the HTC M8 recently leaked and it revealed a device that looks almost identical to the current HTC One. The image also shows that the smartphone will ship with dual UltraPixel cameras and dual LED Flash. The always-reliable @evleaks seemed to confirm the HTC M8 will share a very similar design to the HTC One in a recent tweet and now he's back giving us a look at the upcoming smartphone's Home screen and on-screen buttons.

The image shows an updated version of HTC Sense running on top of Android 4.4 KitKat. The screen shows BlinkFeed and four Sense-themed icons, an app drawer, and on-screen buttons (back, Home, and multitasking). Google has been urging Android licensees to move to on-screen buttons and the image confirms that HTC has left physical buttons behind. A Home screen is all we get for now, we'll have to see if the tipster shares any other screenshots.

The HTC M8 is expected to feature a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD display and run Android 4.4 KitKat, as well as an updated version of HTC's Sense UI. Recent reports have claimed the M8 will be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and 2GB of RAM to provide a snappy user experience. The smartphone will ship with dual UltraPixel rear cameras, dual LED Flash and a front facing camera for video chat. Expect to see the HTC M8 offered in 16GB and 32GB of internal storage and possibly a microSD expansion slot. Recent reports have also suggested the smartphone could ship with a large 2,900 mAh non-removable battery.

We only have a few weeks to go before the HTC M8 gets officially announced and see how it compares to its HTC One sibling.
