[January 10, 2024] — Black White Bear has received widespread acclaim from gaming industry critics and esports enthusiasts for its revolutionary approach to addressing societal biases against vulnerable minorities. The game received a prestigious award in the game design category for its captivating storyline at the NYX Game Awards 2023. Yitong Hu, a talented technical game developer from China, created the game.

Yitong Hu is witnessing a remarkable year in her professional career. The 27-year-old woman was also invited to be on the jury panel of the IndieCade. She is well known for her unapologetic take on issues concerning society. The official spokesperson from her team recently appeared to issue a thank-you note for those who have dearly loved the game's storyline. It has also been among the top in the ranking of Rainbow Jam 2022 and the ranking of Annual Game Jam.

The game is the story of a panda who, by the conventional definition, is a misfit in the territory of all one-color bears. The panda finds itself alone in a challenging world and embarks on a captivating adventure of self-exploration. The game is anticipated to be a popular choice for gamers as it gives the emotional connection that will push them to play their finest to let the panda create a progressive society that is diverse, inclusive, and integrated. This concept closely resembles 19th-century European scientific skepticism regarding the existence of pandas and has been correlated to the response towards the LGBTQ+ minority.

Yitong Hu was asked about her challenges while producing a game during an interview. She shared that working on a solo project has its advantages and disadvantages. While controlling all decisions gives freedom of thought and liberty to work in one's own way, it is a time-consuming and demanding task that requires constant encouragement. She was responsible for story writing, level design, programming, 2D art, UI design, and audio design, which was a huge responsibility, but she had enough experience and expertise to manage it. With limited resources, time, and a minimal budget, Yitong Hu's determination to complete the project made it a reality. Before the game's official launch, she plans to hire UI designers and 2D artists to enhance the user experience.

NYX Game Awards 2023

'For a solo developer, motivation is crucial. Without the encouragement and assistance of a team, it's easy to fall into procrastination or even abandon the project. Therefore, robust and efficient project and time management skills are vital. Adding team members in UI and 2D art for the full version will alleviate the workload and bring fresh perspectives and expertise, enriching the overall development process and product.' Yitong Hu has had the privilege of traveling and living continents apart. Her stay in Malaysia and then to the United States of America provided her with extensive experience interacting with people from all walks of life. She firmly believes that American society values individualism and supports anyone at the receiving end of injustice.
