AT&T to Increase Service Fee for Unlimited Plans

AT&T is raising its monthly service fee for its unlimited plan subscribers starting in March.

The internet service provider confirmed that service rates will increase by 99 cents per line per month, its first price change since it launched in 2020, CNET reported.

Affected customers will be notified of the changes in their billing information at least a few weeks before the new pricing is implemented on March 5.

AT&T Debuts New Subscription Options for Unlimited Plans

While the price for AT&T's services is sure to go slightly higher, the service provider also introduced new data plans with better coverage for a wider range of customers.

The standard Unlimited Starter plan will be replaced with the Unlimited Starter SL with 5GB (previously 3GB) of hotspot data and unlimited talk and text data at $35.99.

The renamed Unlimited Extra plan will also soon have higher data speeds and a 30GB hotspot for $40.99 per month per line.

Finally, the premium subscription Unlimited Premium PL will be priced at $50.99 for non-stop talk, text, and high-speed data up to 60GB per month.

The premium plan will also feature 4K HD streaming capabilities and a roaming network for at least 20 Latin American countries, including the Dominican Republic, free of charge.

The Unlimited Elite plan will not receive any new features despite experiencing the same price hike as the Unlimited plans a few months earlier, while the Value Plus VL will now have 10 lines instead of only one.

US Experiences Further ISP Price Hikes

AT&T's announcement comes at a time when affordable internet is becoming more and more inaccessible to low-income families in the US.

Major internet service providers like Verizon and T-Mobile also increased service fees for their standard data plans last year, passing the price hike simply as service improvements.

The US currently sits at the 32nd place for the most affordable broadband connection worldwide, beaten by the majority of the countries in Europe.
