Sony Improves Age Restriction System Across Platforms

Sony is reportedly working on software that could detect if a child is attempting to access age-restricted content through a parent account. Once identified, the account will be locked to prevent the child from accessing inappropriate content.

The software will be trained based on the input data like voice and text chat and gameplay patterns. This means that the AI system would easily detect if there are discrepancies in the chatting and gameplay.

A warning will appear on the screen and a notification will be sent to the parent account owner. However, since the system has recently been patented there is no guarantee that the system will be implemented anytime soon.

Sony Relies on AI to Improve Account Restriction System

The new age restriction software is based heavily on an AI program that would read the player data. Aside from the parental account owner's data, the model will also be trained to identify if the current user is a child.

According to the patent, there is a possibility that the input data would include photos or videos using a face cam, speech, and grammar patterns through the chat. Moreover, any irregularities of the in-game character's movement will also be analyzed.

Over the years, Sony has been publishing various patents that could help eradicate children's access to inappropriate content. However, there is still a responsibility to the adult account owners to teach their children the differences and implications of playing mature games.
