ASUS reveals Android 4.4 KitKat update roadmap for PadFone devices

ASUS has revealed plans to update its PadFone range of devices to the latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system by the end of the second quarter.

Android updates are often delayed for non-Nexus and GPE devices, and ASUS has not exactly been very prompt with updates recently. That's all about to change, at least for the PadFone line, as the company has just offered its KitKat update roadmap.

The update will hit the ASUS PadFone 2, PadFone Infinity (both old and new) and the PadFone A80 first. ASUS will roll out Android 4.4 KitKat for the original PadFone Infinity in Asia and Russia, and the PadFone A80 will get the upgrade in Europe. The latest PadFone 2 and the new PadFone Infinity, meanwhile, will get the update in all regions.

In addition to the slew of goodies Android 4.4 KitKat has to offer, the aforementioned devices will also get a new version of ASUS' ZenUI. It remains unclear at this point just what new features the new user interface will bring to the table, but ASUS seems pretty excited about it.

"In keeping with our commitment to providing the best customer experience, these updates will all include ASUS ZenUI, the stunning new user interface developed by ASUS for its latest mobile devices," touts the company." ASUS ZenUI takes the mobile experience to a new level, giving users new and exciting ways of interacting with their devices."

The Android 4.4 KitKat update is expected to roll out to the PadFone 2, PadFone A80, and the original PadFone by the end of the second quarter, but ASUS has not offered a specific timeframe at this point. The new PadFone Infinity will get the update a bit later, in the third quarter of 2014, i.e. sometime between July and September. The company said it will offer more specific details on the timing of the update "at a later date."

The rollout is quite slow for an update process, especially if ASUS faces some delays along the way. It is good news nonetheless, and it's always nice to see companies keep users in the loop in regards to their update plans.
